Last week, UFC president Dana White announced the company’s plan to end the early morning weigh-ins and move back to its original time at 4pm in the local market where thr event is taking place. It was an announcement that drew mixed reactions from fighters, most of whom are against the idea.

During the UFC 225 post-fight press conference, White stated that more fighters actually want the old schedule back, based on some research they have done.

“Believe me, we’ve studied it. The numbers don’t lie,” White said. “We’ve talked to fighters. A ton of fighters want to go back to 4 o’clock. And there’s a lot of…

Sucks they can’t rehydrate more, but like its been said multiple times, you have a long time to make weight. Its not a criteria to start the week of the fight.

problem is Dana is a lying motherfucker, always have always been

the "numbers don't lie" he's referring to, is he talking about how many fighters are for, about going back to the late weigh-in?

cuz the number of fighters who have an issue with that is far greater than the ones who are for

in fact, you can only find messages and interviews of the fighters who are against it

zero fighters have come out on interviews and said that was a great idea

obviously, the logic is then to prevent the failed weight cut but with that same logic, why don't we stop testing for steroids? cuz too many people are popping for it.

Good point, its probably the same fighters that come up to him and said their thanks for the reebok deal.

Also not sure if this related, but how many events were in the past two years, compared to the events in the other years with 32 missed? Has to be more right?

As much as I hate DW's douche baggery, I think it's only a matter of time before someone dies if they don't go to the 4pm weigh-in. Some fighters are not as responsible as others. It's less for the fighter's safety and more for covering their ass for the eventual death.

Short window to compare here but this was Writen Dec 2016 and the first early weight in wax June of same year at 199.

As compiled by MMAJunkie‘s Mike Bohn, 21 UFC fighters have missed weight since the early weigh-ins were instituted. By comparison, in the first half of the year just one fighter missed weight under the system previously in place.

Are the UFC early weigh-ins causing more fighters to miss weight? – TheMacLife

I know I've read another article from this year, I'll try to find it.

Nothing to be sorry about & thanks (I think) ;)

But my forte is business type stuff, so those numbers maybe.
I don't keep track of that but the amount of events per year have been steady in the 40-45 area for a few years now (3-4), but I have no concrete numbers as far as weight issues.
But they were certainly more since the weigh-in change & that is 100% on the fighters.

You know ... give an inch & take a mile stuff

    The UFC is a business.

Dana apparently has done well...If I can make what he makes (I'll take a quarter) I'll make my own rules too.

Last year alone, he made about $40-45m*
So you are saying you are good with $10+m!

    ME TOO

    * he gets 9% of profit as salary, plus he is a 6-7% owner. No idea if he took any money out of his ownership share

Is there any real reason they can't just make the weigh-in period 9 AM to 4 PM or something? The people who don't wanna wake up at 6 AM to finish cutting weight don't have to, and the one's who're cool with waking up early and enjoy the post-weigh-in break buffet still get that. Anyone who finishes early doesn't have to wait around for hours for the official ceremony, and those who end up struggling more than they thought they would have a longer window. This seems like this should be the best solution for all parties, and I have a hard time wrapping my head around why they can't or won't do this.

Like the only drawback I can think of is they need to pay a handful of employees and commission people for a few extra hours worth of work.

Only thing I can think of is there might be an AC rule that states there cannot be such a disparity in time between the weigh-in for fighters
A fighter can have 5-6 more hours to put on weight & AC's might see it as too much of an advantage

I felt I should explain the "*" better

When ZuffaLLC was bought, Dana's 9% was attached to it.
So he had to buy back in to keep a ownership stake
It was either 6 or 7% (i forget)
That is his separate ownership % & nothing to do with his position.
Instead of a salary from the new venture, he took 9% of profits (yearly)

With UFC projected to have done about $275m in profit, that is how I got the figures.

But I have no idea how the deal is structured as far as DW taking money out each year (owner share) or not.
    That can get complicated.

    Dana White: Numbers don't lie.

Mark Twain: There's lies, damned lies, and statistics.

I know who I'm siding with. (I hope I didn't fuck up the quote, I'm too lazy too verify.)
