Former Pride heavyweight champion and the man that many consider the greatest fighter of all time has had his name brought up by UFC president Dana White quite a few times in a derogatory manner. Fedor has always been reserved and never said much in return. White has said that Fedor threw away a chance to fight Brock Lesnar among other things and has given the impression that the former WAMMA champion wasn’t interested or was afraid to test himself against the best fighters in the world. This narrative has gone unquestioned until Fedor arrived for the Bellator Fan Fest and spoke to SB Nation and MMAFighting.com. Fedor finally opened up about Dana, What he has said, and what took place on that island when he met about coming to the UFC.

“I got the invite [to fight Lesnar] only after I was retired…Everything has its time and place, and it wasn’t the right time for it. This is how God willed it, so it happened. I also believe it could have happened earlier had the UFC — primarily Dana — reached out and actually started a proper dialogue where both parties met halfway. Not just, ‘these are my rules, either take it or leave it…In all actuality, we did have a couple of conversations here and there, and a lot of what Dana White had said came through as inadequate,…Meaning, during the dialogue that happened over the phone one thing would be said but when the paperwork was sent over it would be something completely different…We did meet on the island…It was very short. It was unclear why he came.

Of course, over the conversation one thing was promised, but when the paperwork was received it was something else. There was a very extensive dialogue between me and Dana, as well as Dana’s lawyers, but it didn’t go anywhere. In other words, Dana basically said, sooner or later you’re going to end up fighting here anyway. You’re still going to say yes to this contract I’m giving you…Throughout my entire career, I’ve heard and read on the Internet a lot of negativity coming from Dana…Someone who says a lot of negative things about you and then turns around and invites you to join him, how do you react to that? And it’s not even about money. It’s all about mutual respect, meeting each other halfway. Not just one saying one thing to the other.”

So who’s lying? Dana White or Fedor Emelianenko?

I think he was very respectable towards white in this interview, alot of retired fighters would have answered very differently

I believe Fedor.

Wasn't the whole reason Fedor never came to the UFC because they didn't want to co - promote with M-1 Global? Dana could have made the Brock fight come true.. Just him and zuffa were way too greedy.. A fighter's career can be short or long only God knows.. Make as much money as you can. Also if someone talks bad about you for years that don't even know you, well that played big factor as well i think.

Brocked seriously lucked out. He would have never been the heavyweight champion imo.

Btw Fedor via armbar imo.

Pick one Dana.

"When I tell you we did everything, someday I'll tell the story of how much we offered that [expletive], too," White said. "People will [expletive] [expletive]. It made no sense [how much we offered]. It was one of those type of deals like, you know that these networks, the NFL does $9 billion in television revenue. It makes no sense for the networks. The network doesn't make a dime off that. But you have to have the NFL, right? The NFL pulls ratings like anything.

"This is one of those deals [we offered Emelianenko] where it's like, 'This makes no [expletive] sense whatsoever.' Literally, when we got onto the plane when we were flying back, we were like, 'Thank [expletive] God they turned that offer down.' We were like, 'Thank God they turned that down.' "

Or is it......

"Fedor sucks man. You guys need to get with the facts, deal with it, he sucks, get over the Fedor thing," said White.

Dana its use to getting his way...he finally met a fightervwho wanst desperate and didn't take the first chicken bone thrown at him...Dana can say he verbally offered him all the money in the world but when that contract shows up its a different story...this isn't drug dealing you don't make verbal agreements then try to low ball a guy..I respect what he's done for the sport but don't think for one minute he hasnt done it for his well compensated benefit...

Of the three names mentioned, Dana's the only one who's ever lied to me (as a fan) in the past, numerous times in fact, so he's my pick.

Dana, of course.

Just another aspect that makes Fyodor a great man, never caving in.

Integrity.

This may surprise a lot of you being that i praise the fuck out of Fedor all the time and always defend him and point out how awesome he is...

But I don't fault UFC for not getting it signed. I don't fault Fedor 100%, but it takes two to tango and as much of a Fedor fan and mma fan that would've liked to have seen him in the octagon, I can't expect UFC to risk a newly signed HW beating their best guys and then leaving to arguably promote another promotion to add legitimacy to their divison.

It was a HUGE let down when this happened, I really like Fedor as a fighter, I've watched his fights on repeat hundreds of time.

I see your point..Honestly i would have loved see Fedor fight in the UFC..But I would have wanted 06 Fedor in there cuz all know if he would have that his legacy would have been tarnished If he lost past his prime and In my opinion his best days were when he beat the pride Legends...he has nothing to prove any true student of the game know how great he was..Beating Randy or Brock later would have been hated on by ufc fan boys after Cain and Machida beat the two them..

Fedor was like 30-32 when he could have signed with the UFC? Not past his prime I think. He made it seem like he was past his prime as he became quite one dimensional and fell in love with his hands. Being in the UFC would have forced him to evolve or sink. There wasn't only Brock and Randy, he could have faced JDS, Carwin, Cain, quite a few very good and intriguing fights.
