We have a great healthcare system up here in Canada. We call it Medicare except all of us get it. As far as I can see, Sanders is the only one pushing for you guys to get something as good as what we have, but it seems like a lot of Americans don't get that. You may hear us beaking about it from time to time (politely), but I assure you, I wouldn't trade it to come to the US. We also have much more affordable colleges and universities up here, which I've heard Bernie talk about. I didn't really take advantage of them, but that doesn't mean it's not a great idea. I hope the other 20 odd states down in the US do the smart thing and get a candidate in there who can finally put you guys on par with us. I'm lucky to love our president despite (ok, maybe because) his questionable past costume choices. Happy democracy America!

If the US is to adopt healthcare systems from the rest of the world, they need to lower the prices for procedures drastically. The administrative cost, this industrialized bubble needs to burst first. Only then universal healthcare will be viable. First ask, why is the US so much more expensive in medical procedures than the rest if the world? Before that, people should not be forced to take on "insurance" with high deductable, just to support this crippling system.

Because much like the healthcare system in the US, education is heavily industrialized. Some schools may have as much administrators as students. Again, another bloated system that needs to be fixed before it can actually become more affordable.

US Health care prices began to rise the government stuck it's nose in.
How Government Regulations Made Healthcare So Expensive | Mike Holly

This redistribution garbage does nothing to improve medicine, technology, training, service, etc..
Once again it's simply the producers paying for the bums.

Like all socialist programs it's already starting to show cracks. Costs are now far greater
than the worst prediction originally sold to the citizens. Wait times, service, etc... is all worsening.

Consumers do not need Gov Co coming in and artificially setting costs, pay, etc...

It's almost as if some of you can ignore a century of absolute failure. Very odd.

I don't really get involved and think the whole U.S election race is a joke but whats the issue with medicare?

Every other developed country in the world has a public health system, the option is there to go private as well, some shit you do some shit you don't, depends on how critical an issue or how long you want to wait.

You get insurance to cover private care, it costs fuck all compared to the states, that isn't socialisim or crazy radical policy its basic shit.

Is it really just insurance companies strangling the fuck out of the market?

Why is everything so expensive?

Genuinely curious here because to be honest it is pretty crazy looking from the outside at the U.S health system.

Obviously the quality of care is there but if you get really sick you are bankrupt, I'd imagine getting money out of the insurance companies is like getting blood out of a stone as well.

I don't know what country you're in, but in Canada the extra taxes we pay + secondary insurance is way higher than what an American pays for health insurance.

Edit to add: and if you live in a heavily populated area the service times are absolutely horrendous.

Interesting.

So it really is just insurance premiums, Canadians get hammered across the board on insurance in comparison?

How much is it for a family $100 ish a month?

If you don't have it you are still entitled to the same quality of treatment just with a much longer wait time and less comfort?

In the states you get the treatment even if you can't afford it and you get saddled with a massive debt?

How much do you pay?
With a few exceptions there is a minimum 13% tax on every dollar spent, Last I sat down and looked it, about 40-45% of every dollar I make is claimed by the government. That's on top of $1500-2000 for private insurance.

But how much do you personally pay annually for insurance? What are the actual dollars Canadian you pay for your healthcare.

It depends on a lot of factors, I'm around $100 per month for just myself.

Private insurance is for things over and above what public healthcare covers (dental, eye care, etc) whether you have your own insurance or not you get the same level of care.

Believe it or not, the government doesn't give me a breakdown of where my money goes even though I really wish they would. So I can tell you at least $1500-2000 because that's what my insurance costs me.

According to this article from 2017 the average Canadian (I'm very, very average) pays about $6000 per year.

How much does the ‘average’ Canadian pay in a year for public health care?

It’s so strange to me that a guy who grew up with free healthcare has such a hard on for Americans not getting theirs.
