With Bendo moving up, A Johnson moving up and finding success, Diaz fighting up and looking good, will fighters start to fight at more natural weights and not cut so much?

Loathe weight cutting.. seems thats the answer for all.. "that's a part of the fight game." Really? Wasn't until they watered down the sport.

I was hoping michelle made it into this thread!!!

Not everyone can move up and be successful, fighters these days seem to think moving down is the answer.

Unless the procedure is changed to same day weigh ins, people will continue to cut tremendous amounts of weight to be stronger than the opponent. AJ was an extreme example of going beyond the point of diminishing returns. Same day weigh ins wouldn't stop cutting, but would probably make people fight closer to their natural weight.

It is a fine line between gaining an advantage and depleting the shit out of your body. I hope more guys take a book out of Bens chapter.

Personally I think extreme weightcutting is dangerous and shouldn't be as big a part of the sport as it is. Same day weigh in could be the solution, can't see it happening though.

This REALLY scares me though, because the risk of serious brain trauma increases significantly if the body is dehydrated. I would hate to see guys pushing themselves to cut 15-20 pounds the day of the fight, not rehydrating properly, and ending up leaving the octagon in a coma. Scary stuff. Personally, I would rather see weigh-ins 48 hours prior to the fight, so the fighters have ample time to rehydrate and give their bodies time to recover. What's your thoughts on that?

Yeah thats why I can't see it happening, guys would still try and crash cut and rehydrate with a smaller window which would be way more dangerous and lead to more missed cuts. I think 48 hours could be a good idea and we would see less issues like with Renan . That wouldn't stop the issue of guys cutting big numbers but would be a better system than we have now, health wise. I'd like to see looser limits and no weight cutting at all . Fighters should be building their bodies up before competing rather than draining them.

i see them rather go down in weight, with less muscle mass.

This is why it would need to be a double weigh in.

One 24 hours before the fight, and then one before going into the cage.

Let's use 155.

If you make the maximum weight at weigh in 155, then you know that guys are making weight. Then they can re-hydrate properly.

If you say that going into the fight the fighters can weigh no more than the next class up, 170, then at most you will have guys cutting 15 lbs.

Now 15 lbs is dangerous but it will stop guys cutting huge weight.

If you try to just have same day weigh ins you'll still have guys trying to figure out how to cut to the very last minute. This way they will at least be some what re-hydrated for the fight but closer to weight.

whether or not we see more fighters step up in weight or not remains to be seen. What I will say though, is you get extra credit when you go up in weight class, and even moreso when you win. The only exception to this is Goat discussion. That's the only time fighting bigger guys is irrelevant.
