Alright, who here loves the sight of snow and is already looking forward to riding this season?

We just bought a family season pass for Silver Star Mountain in Vernon BC.

I've snowboarded since highschool and currently ride a Rome Anthem 163 with Technine bindings. I didn't ride it once last year as I wanted to give skiing a try. The skis are just mid level Völkl around 170 I think, had a blast on them. This year I'll be doing a bit of both depending on conditions I think.

Other mountains within two hours are

    Big White :: Home

    Home - Apex Mountain Resort

    Sun Peaks Resort Mobile Site

Plus another handful that are around 3-5 hours away closer to @PND@PND and @sgotwalks@sgotwalks

Looking forward to a great season!

I might give it a go this year. I haven't been out in a few years but now that I live within an hour of two resorts I should go out at least once.

Get those legs jacked on your bike rides and it'll be an easy transition. We should meat up at Revy this season for some powder rides.

Maybe you could spend the day there with my wife? Help her up if she falls while I go off on my own? That'd be pretty helpful.

I am actually not that bad. I tore my achilles 20 years ago so I'm paranoid I will wreck myself again so I take my time like an old fogey.

It's a magical time of year where you get to experience another side of mother nature and completely swap out your wardrobe. That and ride down steep mountains at break neck speed and enjoy beers outside by a big fire or in a huttub afterwards.

Im trying snow boarding this year for the first time.
We shall see how it goes.

@Kelly@Kelly silver star mountain looks awesome! sweet that you have so many choices so close to home.

I just moved to new england...we're going to take advantage of the slopes nearby in new Hampshire .
I know people who ski/board regularly scoff at the East Coast mountains...but when you're from sea level florida...any elevation is fun.

I might hit you up for tips before we go...i know nothing about layering to stay warm. i know spf and flip flops

I was in CT in March and elevation was such a strange thing to experience. I mean, there is some in central FL, but it's not like I go there often and it's nothing like up there. It was so beautiful and definitely made me think about moving there.
We drove up so it was an experience watching everything change as we drove up.

Ask away in here and I'm sure somebody can help answer anything you can think of. What are the local mountains there you'd go to?

It's fantastic. I really enjoy having 4 different seasons rotate year round and different things each bring. If you ever get a chance to book a trip at a real winter cabin at a mountain with a hotub and slopes you need to go.

I have a deep desire to go to Alaska, hopefully one day.
If I never have another child, I'd be okay. When this one is in his teens, I hope I am able to take him all over the world. It was so cool to take him to NYC and walk around. I know he's only five, but it was definitely an experience to get a tour of the city from a person (my brother) who has lived there his whole life.
Next time I won't have a drugged out asshat with me.

We are going to a place called loon in the white Mountains in NH..about 2 hours away. Vermont has slopes too..same distance. i think its all the north end of the Appalachians.

I borrowed ski clothes from a pal..she said something about not wearing cotton. i was going to google it. no idea why .

Good idea, wear some under armor type stuff. The cotton with get wet and stay wet from working hard on the hills and when you get onto the chair lift or take a break that moisture int he cold will ruin your day right quick. Same with your socks, find a wool blend or something other than 100% cotton

I've never been snow skiing (I've gone water skiing plenty of times). There are ski slopes not far from where I live but every time we get a group together everybody just wants to go tubing down their big ass hill - which admittedly is pretty damn fun. Maybe I'll try skiing this winter - my brother goes all the time.

I haven't had an emergency run to the hospital in a long time. Time to spice it up.

When I was out in Jackson Hole, Wyoming the mountains looked pretty damn intimidating. That town is ski-crazy in the winter.
