Yoel Romero and Thiago Alves join Kelvin Gastelum with suspensions from UFC 205 | BJPenn.com

New York is proving to be a strict state when it comes to their athletic commission.

On Wednesday, MMA Fighting reported per New York State Department spokesperson Laz Benitez that Yoel Romero has been suspended for 60 days for exiting the Octagon after beating former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman in their UFC 205 contest.

After delivering a fight-ending flying knee in the third round of their contest, Romero jumped over the cage celebrating his big win. The “Soldier of God” marched around the outside of the cage and then eventually walked back in the Octagon to be announced as the winner.

In addition to Romero being suspended, Thiago Alves and Kelvin Gastelum were also given suspensions for missing weight for UFC 205.

Alves was suspended for three months for missing weight by 6.6 pounds for his UFC lightweight debut against Jim Miller, first reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Alves was fined 20 percent of his fight purse, which went into Miller’s pocket for missing weight. Alves ended up losing a unanimous decision to Miller in their UFC 205 bout.

lol Thiago Alves too.. wtf? Handing out suspensions for trifling shit? More at the link.

Very strange evening for officiating.

I'd like to know what the differences are between states but NYC should have listened to other states.

Forcing a doctor to enter then leave the cage immediately for the Edgar eye poke was also weird on top of other shit.

Very strange

That's some bullshit. Maybe suspend him for his habitual line stepping. But for jumping out of the cage. Fuck off.

New York really doesn't want people fighting there.
Yeah, it really looks like the commission wants to show what tough guys they are right off the bat. This is fine if they are going to be fair and work to improve the safety and integrity of the sport.

Unfortunately this shit looks more like a dick-measuring contest

I'd venture to say more than half of the fighters that end the fight in a spectacular fashion jump on the cage or show off to some extent.

Your adrenaline is sky high, all those nerves during the lead up to the fight are over, let the guys celebrate as long as they don't taunt their opponent afterwards.

you say no to gay jesus?
New York is proving to be a strict state when it comes to athletes who go from Gay Jesus.

On Wednesday, MMA Fighting reported per New York State Department spokesperson Laz Benitez that Yoel Romero has been suspended an additional 60 days for going away from Gay Jesus after beating UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman in their UFC 205 contest.

After delivering a fight-ending flying knee in the third round of their contest (which may have been as a result of praying to Gay Jesus before the bout), Romero jumped over the cage celebrating his big win, loudly proclaiming "I go from ah Gay Cheesus!" to anyone who would listen. Unfortunately for him, the New York State Department, proud Gay Jesus supporters, were listening.

In addition to Romero being suspended, Thiago Alves and Kelvin Gastelum were also given suspensions for not praying hard enough to Gay Jesus.

As long as there is no monetary fine who gives a shit. New York athletic commision may be the first to get ignored by other state commissions.

60 days does nothing, unless this were cowboy. Stupid suspension, but with no fine being issued, whatevs.
