My buddy Eric lived on his dad's 65ft yacht right after we graduated high school. He hated it within about 6 months. Granted, it was docked in a covered slip the entire time. It was awesome to visit and spend a night or two, but he was glad to move off of it because something was always broken and simple shit like grocery trips were a giant pain in the ass compared to living in a house.

I would love to boat across an ocean one day, though. I'm not a professional seaman, but the first time I heard this passage from Moby Dick it resonated with me and continues to:

“Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off--then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship.”

i spent enough time in the warranty bay when i worked for Campion Marine. we didnt build yachts but we built some pretty sweet cabin cruisers . they simply are not made to be lived in . its like living in a RV . if you use them like intended they will last for years. if you live in them even for a year that is like taking it out for the weekend 100x. eventually your going to have a hose pop off your grey or black water tank and have gross shit spilling in to a void with no way of ever reaching your arm in there to fix it cuz the tanks go in before the top half of the boat goes on . some shit is easy to fix..like bilge pumps or your fridge but other shit is buried never to be seen again
