With the chaos after UFC 229, it is somewhat understandable that most talking points after UFC 229 was about the brawl and not the title bout itself. A lot of notable things did happen during the actual contest, and renowned coach Firas Zahabi gave a detailed analysis on the bout on his YouTube channel.

Apart from discussing their technique and game plans, among the things the Tristar gym coach pointed out were the amount of fouls that McGregor got away with.

“I know Herb Dean. He’s a great referee. The man’s a professional fighter as well, he knows what’s going on in there. He understands jiujitsu, he understands striking. But McGregor got away with so many fouls,” Zahabi said. “To the point that…

he cheated and kept cheating because he never got called

that is why Herb was on the bout...he just won't stand up for the rules or himself

you warn and still see it you do something immediately

Herb just pretends he didn't see and only acts after many more infractions....only to warn again

not that it mattered
CONOR was completely outclassed and bested

Great analysis of the fight. How refreshing to hear an objective breakdown. He gives Conor credit where he deserves it. He agrees with the Gracies that anyone would have tapped to that choke and explains why and offers to have anyone come to trystar and he'll demonstrate why. Gives a good breakdown of Khabibs strategy and why it worked for him. A few minor points I might disagree with him on but overall great analysis.

-300? Maybe this is the plan lose the first fight then place a huge bet and the odds will pay off big in the rematch and he rides off into the sunset as the goat... lol.
then the plan backfired... should be atleast a -700 favorite... ur losing money on the bad odds. should have lost more covincingly to merrit such odds then.

He wanted to be the first fighter to take a round from Khabib.

Mission accomplished.

Wait are you saying he did pretty good even though he lost...stop the presses. If its -300 and there is not even a fight booked imagine when they actually book it... It will probably start at -300 and jump right up...:leftright:

Your "anyone would have tapped to that deathly lion killing choke" is the new "Nate was 7 feet tall and 300 lbs."

So you going to take Firas up on his offer to come to Tristar and he'll demonstrate it on you and you can show him the Gracies and us what we are missing?

when it's sunk in like that, if you don't tap you wake up with a broken jaw.
Never in the history of grappling have we looked at the final lock and said "well, that fully sunk in submission was inescapable." We look at every mistake that led to getting in that position, including exposing your back (which even Ryron and Rener sort of gloss over by saying, yeah Conor had his hands on the floor). Khabib didn't use some incredibly sophisticated back take and trap combo to get there. Conor just made several mistakes that he keeps making on the bottom over and over again.

I already went over this with you in another thread. Chin tucked or not, if you got caught there you messed up a long time ago.

Because he has no heart. He likes to give up when the going gets tough or so it would seem.

I think everyone is talking about whether or not the lock was a 'pain compliance' lock, or whether it has the ability to finish a fight. Lots of ignorant people were spouting off about "it wasn't even on the neck" - as if that was relevant. I don't think anyone is glossing over the delta in Khabib and Conor's grappling, it is huge and well known.

Were not talking about that. No one is arguing it, he obviously messed up to get in that position, so everyone who has fought Khabib messed up in some way to get subbed or lose. Were talking about once that choke is locked in you either tap or you're going to sleep and possible serious injury. People are saying he tapped because he's a quitter. That makes no sense...

Because he has no heart. He likes to give up when the going gets tough or so it would seem.
Its ignorant statements like this that are getting ridiculous. He had no heart because he got caught in a choke that anyone would tap to or get hurt??? These are made by people who have no idea the dynamics it takes to fight much less go 4 rounds with someone like Khabib defending take downs getting up from take downs etc. Maybe if you actually listen to Firas you might learn something...
