I think there's a conflation of scientific iterative progress and "flip-flopping". I hear this from my mom a lot "They used to think X was good for you, now they're saying it's not=they must not know what they're talking about. I won't believe them anymore." This is actually called progress. "They" aren't sure of something until it's proven, but it doesn't stop the media and rubes like Enock-O-Lypse Now! @Enock-O-Lypse Now! who only think in black and white, to take some research breakthrough or a statement based on current available facts, and run it up the flagpole as "THE LATEST ADVANCES!" Then when someone changes their mind as new evidence becomes available "they're a flip-flopper and don't know more than me." This is obviously absurd.
