I got cauliflower ear when I was a trainee in 2010. But that was literally a very horrible moment of my training. I was feeling swelling or pain in the ear. Then I applied ice to release the pain and reduce the swelling. So to prevent this horrifying injury, Try to train by wearing headgear.

I drained my own ear dozens of times earlier in my grappling journey. My cauliflower is barely noticeable, and I have not gotten it again for years; leading to my theory that once you have a little and it scars down, it is less likely you will get it again. Hopefully I don’t prove my own theory wrong in the future.

So far, so good. That post was over a year ago and my ears don’t look significantly worse now than they did then, and I have not had to drain them again since.
