They keep calling Cruz "UFC royalty" last night. So being 5-2 in the UFC with 2 wins over Uriah makes you "royalty"?

He was eating shots to the face with his hands on the mat...fair stoppage imo.

If the ref had dived in when Cruz stopped moving briefly it probably would've been ok, but when he was standing up? GTFO that was a horrible stoppage, and **** off with the "unanswered blows" bullshit, he didn't need to fight back he needed to defend himself which he was doing.

Maybe Cruz was done but we will never know because the referee panicked and called it too early.

The Ferguson stoppage on the other hand you could understand

At what point in the stoppage was he defending? Don't let Joe's and DC's Cruz dick riding sway the facts...

the part where he was trying to get away and then the part where he tried to stand up
His was face down taking shots when the fight was called. It certainly could have went on now that we know he wasn't that hurt but it clearly didn't look that way during the stoppage.

This is real retarded, sir. You can't be face down, not covering your head from multiple strikes and call it intelligent defence. Cejudo lands 13 punches on Dom's head without Dom covering up. Not one punch, not two punches, 13 fucking punches without any form of defence. How can the ref just let that go on and claim to be doing his job?

You're getting swept up by bullshit excuses from Dom and Dom's friends. I had a lot of money on him and I can see that it was an absolutely warranted stoppage.

For so many mouth breathing fans, they only judge stoppages based on whether or not a guy complains about it afterwards. It's idiotic.

It's kind of strange that the stoppage either needed to be a second sooner or let it go another second or two. The exact moment the ref got in makes it worse. We've definitely seen fights stopped when fighters are defending better but we've also seen fights allowed to go longer when fighters were defending worse.

That said, Cruz really doesn't give excuses for his performances or anything so this is pretty weird. Maybe Peterson was sober (last night) and was sweating out the booze from Friday? I do know that he looked like he was fairly red last night.. Not Dana red but a bit redder than I remember him being before.

Pretty shitty for Cruz to drop that bit of on conjecture but he really seemed to believe it so I'm torn on what to believe.

It's completely ridiculous is what it is. Even if you think it was a bad stoppage (which makes you a moron), you would still have to admit that it's not even close to the worst stoppage you've seen, presumably from sober refs. There was nothing about the stoppage that you could attribute to the ref being intoxicated.

Anyone who isn't a complete rube can see this is just denialism and an attempt to shift the blame to someone else, because Cruz can't handle that he lost.

There is no correct answer here but the fact that there is so much banter on the validity of the stoppage proves that it was at least controversial. Personally I say him intentionally try to spin crawl out of harm’s way to get enough space to stand up. I thought it was too early and especially in a title fight between little people. If that was Ngannou pounding on a downed opponent I could see more of an argument to step in, but just don’t see how he was “finished” when it was called.

It doesn't prove anything. There are plenty of dipshits out there that believe that unless a fighter is stone cold unconscious, it was an early stoppage. It's not a valid opinion, yet it is common.

Usually all it takes for a significant portion of the fanbase to believe a stoppage was early is for the fighter who got stopped to complain, regardless of the validity of that complaint. You add in the fact that the stopped fighter's buddies were calling the fight and the 'controversy' gets drummed up even more.

But it doesn't make it legitimately controversial, it just means there are lots of retards out there.

the way he fell after the knee and the hard shot to follow, ref made a fair call.

Keith is right about saving Dom's ass from CTE and a knee injury as well if he let the fight continued, Cringy was having his way with him

I watched the fight, I don't give two fucks about commentary, Dom Cruz or anything else but what I saw. I even said myself if he'd stopped it sooner (when Dom briefly stopped moving) we wouldn't be having this debate, but he didn't, he waited till Dom was getting up and dived in.

The ref fucked up

as for the 13 punches, you can clearly see Cejudo was hitting hard at first but had lost steam towards the end

Ref should have let the fight go on for few more seconds, but if you watch the footage the ref made up his mind to stop the fight when dom was on the floor taking shots. As soon as ref went to stop the fight Dom Tried to stand up.
