"But do you get the feeling Joe, that trading with Lawler, maybe nick is biting off more than he can chew?"

Joe: "He might not be!"

BING!

Same with the GSP/Miller fight.

Rogan: "Yeah but Mayhem's jiu-jitsu is LIGHT YEARS ahead of GSP's"

As GSP is ragdolling Jason and putting him in several painful submission positions...
Lol good call on the miller fight. Moments like thoseake me love rewatching old fights.

O

I love watching the Karo fight because of the comments made by Joe and Goldie. Hindsight is 20/20 but its kinda funny to gear the surprise in their voice as GSP keeps beating on him. Same scenario when Diaz wanted to slug it out with Robbie and they were saying he might be biting off more than he can handle. Great pick with GSP.
oh yeah. they about shit when robbie went out, and i honestly did too. lol... but to be fair, i know more about training practices having an effect on fighters now, and the miletich camps were brutal.

that fight made me a miller fan! he got up and bounced around, and he had a smile on his face. miller is a worrior, no matter what he does now.

I became a fan of MMA when UFC 1 hit video stores. I was always impressed and entertained by guys like Royce, Ken, Tank, Don Frye, Bas, Gary Goodridge, etc.

But one day I saw this young Hawaiian dude burst onto the scene, with an intensity and natural ability like none I had ever seen before. Running into the cage, pacing like a lion waiting for his prey, throwing himself into the fire, and running back out of the cage. I instantly became a huge fan. I never wavered during his losses (and at times, excuses). There was just something about BJ Penn that got me invested in both his career, and further into MMA.

I'm a fanboy to this day, and proud of it. WAR PENN!
You dumb fuck! You're not suppose to win your own contest you big dummy :D

<--------This guy.

I can't pick the exact reason why BJ is my favorite fighter of all time, I probably can't articulate why or what it is about him as a fighter that puts him above all others in my mind but I'll try. I've been around this stuff since day one and have gotten to witness all the greats pre, during, and post prime in real time. There are a few guys over the years that for some reason have captured my fan-hood more than others.....The Goat(Fedor of course), Frank Shamrock, and Rickson to name just a few.

What is it about this fella from Hilo that makes some guy from the east coast of the US stop anything and everything he was doing or had planned to do because there might be a re-airing of a Prodigy fight or an interview etc? Hard to say.

I'm not much of a fanboy of anyone in any form of sports or entertainment, I'm one of the last guys you'll ever catch asking another man for an autograph or picture(nothing wrong with it, just not in my nature)....but two fighters to step in the ring/cage that I would knock old ladies and little babies out of my way to try and shake their hands are Fedor and BJ. The rest I may admire and If I was across the room from them, I may stare a bit longer than normal and take in their aura for a sec, but that's about it.

Fans like to always say how they think BJ has huge balls and is willing to fight anyone anywhere....and though that is true, there is more to it in my eyes. Anybody that steps foot in a ring or cage to get in a fist fight has huge balls from jump street. A lot of times fans lose that perspective. But BJ had an unwavering willingness to step in against fighters knowing he was outgunned, whether by weight, skill, training, dedication, etc. For instance, Donald Cerrone will take a fight on a moments notice against probably anyone, anywhere, just like BJ, but the difference being you probably won't ever see Cerrone out of shape and in a compromised state and still taking these fights.....BJ would and did, maybe to the detriment of his legacy or career in some peoples eyes....but not mine. There are a few guys who have done this throughout the history of mma and almost universally for the exact same reason.....$$$$$$. But not Baby Jay....he never really needed the money.

He is a warrior, through and through. No doubt about it and any way you slice it.....he craves combat, deep down in his bones.

Many say, if BJ had only done this, or if BJ had only done that.....he could have been the greatest of all time. Hogwash, BJ took what life gave him and did the very best he could with what he had mentally and physically.....not every human develops the same work ethic or physical abilities or intelligence etc, but a two division UFC World Champion is the top of the food chain boys and girls....what do you have with your perfect dedication, perfect diet, perfect SAT scores, and your perfect training regimen?

From my perspective, and many will disagree I'm sure.....but BJ Penn in his mental prime(think of his '07-'09 run at LW), is the greatest LW of all time. That was a window of what the best BJ was capable of.....and he was an absolute destroyer at 155.

Anyway....I suck at explaining my thoughts but I have rambled enough.

Connor McGregor is my favorite fighter today. He trains hard and it pays off for him in the ring and out. He shows no mercy for his opponent's and is a truly entertaining guy. Love his accent and the pride he has for his country and himself. He is the total image of self confidence I wish to some day be at. He is a inspiration with his record alone and one day, I'll come on the woman's scene and I hope I can make a great as an impact on the sport as he has. Fast hands!

Good post. The one thing that I love about Conor, is his zest for life. His smile and laugh are contagious. He's just having a blast with his new found stardom, and who can hate on a guy for that? God bless him!

How many people would you see taking selfies w/ fans while two LHW mega-stars are brawling 30 feet away?

So many favorites, but Big Nog is #1.

One of the things people always say distinguished Pride was its ability to tell stories in the ring. No one was a better hero than Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira. His fights with Schilt and Sapp especially showed what jiu jitsu was really designed for.

His total dominations of Herring and Inoue had already elevated him to heroic status, but when he was put in against those monsters, he was elevated to near myth. There's no one who brings the emotion out of me like Nog does every single time he steps in the cage. I nearly cried when Mir ripped his arm off and I think his time is long past done. But for those of us who got to see big Nog in his prime, there was never a greater hero in this sport.

Fedor's greatest credit is how thoroughly he dismantled Minotauro. The two of them belong in the pantheon of HW GOATs for as long as this sport is remembered.

Good post KB. Sucks seeing these legends from PRIDE come toward the end of their careers. They all played a significant role in MMA history (PRIDE Never Die) and helped pave the way for the new breed of fighters we're watching today.

Shogun. I think he was the first fighter I seen fight really when I was looking into Pride back in the day. I loved the quiet but savageness he had about him, especially watching him literally chop people down with his kicks.

Just one of those things, first real fighter ya see always has a spot in your mind regardless of how good or bad they were.

Did your keyboard just break? I've never seen Greek777 @Galanis and Fedor in the same post that's not 2 pages long.

Lol, I know, I get it, I write a lot. Everyone tells me all the time so I'm trying to shorten my posts. I don't mean to clog up/ruin threads. I just have a lot to say I guess. None of my friends give a single fuck about fights, at all, so I have no one to talk about it with ya know. Sucks being so passionate about something and you know nobody who cares even a fraction as much

Edit: now that I think about it, I legit have no friends anymore anyway, so I guess that is why I get so bored and convey my thoughts online more than I should. Sorry guys

But also, ironically enough, my keyboard IS broken. The U, I, O, K, N and E keys all get stuck. So after I write anything, I find myself constantly having to go back and correct a million words. Drives me nuts. Part of why I am posting less lengthy, it's just too annoying to deal with.
