In the UK fishing for carp has been one of main species to really take off.

If you have a lake of specimens thats in a natural surroundings it can be quite the investment, although you need a solid stocking program that doesn't introduce to many but bring on quality.

Barbell fishing is probably the next big one to go, but this time of year in the UK it's pike, perch, roach, rudd, odd tench and carp on the light gear.
You like this?

In bass fishing circles it's pretty common for guys who use bait casters to tease those with spinning reels. Don't take yourself so seriously.
I take my fishing seriously so if you have something to contribute on that front Im all ears.

Ive caught my fair share of bass on that very set up, ive got a youtube video of one somewhere Ill see if I can dig it up, where abouts do you do your fishing?

There's nothing wrong with a spinning reel, and your setup with the Loomis rod is a nice one, like I said I was just giving you the gears. Bait casters allow for better precision than spinners, but they're more difficult to use so guys tend to shy away from them particularly if they fish a large variation of species rather than bass specifically. When you're into tournament bass fishing you see almost exclusively bait casters.

The area I live in has a few pretty large rivers that flow past it, so we're fortunate to have pretty good fishing. I usually just go out with a buddy of mine and I'm just along for the ride.

This is called a tench? never seen one here, they very rare over there?
Yes, they're not rare as but can be hard to find a decent head of tench of that size as they get pushed off the bait by carp, for a few months of the year they really turn on and are easy to catch the rest of the year they are tricky and you really do need your watercraft.

Here some more tench

They come in gold

And rare as fuck black!

Yeah I now I use a caster when fishing for giant trevally (GT) in Fiji, they are fucking horses so I like being able to thumb down on the line and not worry about the egg beater absorbing. the action. They are good for kayak fishing too as its easier to fish one handed IMHO

I get spooled on casters all the time though but nearly never on the spinner each to their own, hand spear fishing is my favorite method.

That's the reason most guys opt for a spinning reel over a bait caster. Baitcasters do a better job of allowing you into tight spaces, but if you don't know what you're doing it shows in the form of birds' nests. Hence, the joking around.

Yeah but if you thumb down as the lure hits the water its normally okay, our trips normally involve copious amounts of beer and weed so Ill stick to my poor dad spinner.

Now fuck all this noise, someone take me flounder spearing!

on the gulf coast of florida..you can catch reds, snook, trout. cobia and grouper...my favs to eat.

we have a ridiculous amount of fishing poles and spear guns..hard to complain though because i enjoy eating the catch.

I grew up in a small fishing community of the north end of vancouver island and used to commercial fish for a living. Long lining, gill netting, seining, trolling and live cod fisheries. I have slayed my fair share of fish in my lifetime. From live cod to halibut to sharks and sturgeons.
That being said I am terrible at fresh water fishing.

Seen some of my best and worst days on the pacific west coast. I have seen shit people pay a fortune to experience.

Biggest fish we hauled in commercially was a 265 lbs halibut. There is a photo out there of me dressing it, all you can see is my ass hanging out of its belly!

Pic relative to size of fish.

Fishing salt water bass we would stack our lines with 1 foot leads on swivels with live herring (hooked through the jaw) chase the school to underside of boat. Fishing with dynomite!

Obviously during herring season where you could run up to a ball of herring and brail in a batch of live bait.

Yep. Can't wait for spring to go smallmouth fishing.

Going to the Caribbean for about a month early next year so I'll probably try to catch some dinner down there too.
