Agreed, but his TDD was shit and he was eating huge shots on the ground for a couple minutes.
Almost anyone is going to be put on their back by Chad Mendes. It was always going to happen, Chad is that good. It was how he responded that showed how good he is. Didn't panic, attacked from his back, worked to his feet, and then finished him with strikes.

"Frankie, what kind of shape are you in?"
"Training every day boss. I could go five rounds tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll call you back."

"Chad, what kind of shape are you in?"
"Now? I'm carrying a little weight, but I could cut it in time to fight Conor."
"You're in buddy!"
I love this post! So funny and true

Aldo wasn't put on his back by Chad

Conor got cracked by Poirier hard and Poirier came off worse, since they exchanged. He has a chin. Also chin is partly confidence, and honestly, I've never seen anyone as confident, in any walk of life, and that plays in to it. It will take a lot to put him away and could take years. Aldo might beat him on a decision, but he isn't knocking him out.
He better have a different game plan for Aldo than just standing in front of him with his hands down and laughing. I can see Aldo getting the KO if he tries that taunting shit like Silva did when he fought Weidman. Unfortunately Conor just exposed his weak ground game and I'm sure Aldo and his camp was taking notes.

I think it is also that Frankies top game is better. He has better subs, GNP and control. I don't think, at the moment, if he takes Mcgregor down, that Conor can get back up. On the feet though Frankie gets slaughtered and might have a harder time getting him down. He doesn't have that explosive reactive double that Mendes has.
I disagree. Frankie's takedowns, double legs included, are always reactive, and what he lacks in power he makes up for with speed and timing. Frankie is also a black belt in BJJ, and most importantly he doesn't stand flat footed in front of his opponents the way Mendes did tonight. I agree that closing the distance could be an issue, but then again Edgar doesn't go into fights thinking knockout.

You're right. I guess I was just buying into the hype and expecting Chuck Liddell level TDD. Great win for him either way. I just hope they do McGregor vs Aldo next. I don't care to see him fight Edgar.

He might make him immobile with the kicks
I could see Connor rethinking life if a healthy aldo throws a single kick to that irish thigh.

But I agree that Connor has a confidence that is rare. I think it feels a bit Grand Prix Shogun or maybe Early Takanori GOMI. Just got the strut and skills +clarity.

I'll have to look at tape closer. That was just my first impression from watching fights. I haven't really studied Frankie, and wrestling and the ground game is definitely my least knowledgeable area. I'll defer to you for now, but reserve the right to change my mind. :)

A single leg kick? Come on now. It is certainly possible, but Mcgregor has broken two guys legs with kick checks. One really early on and Holloway fractured his leg from a checked kick. It's a possibility, but with Conor's stance he doesn't need to do much to check Aldo's power leg, but turn his leg inside. Orthodox fighters have to lift their leg, but it is much slower. The outside leg kick is there all day, but that isn't Aldo's power leg, so won't be quite as hard.

Aldo will be at a range disadvantage too. I don't think some people get how hard Mcgregor hits and how long his reach is for this division. He is huge for featherweight. As for exposed ground game, just lmfao. Got back to his feet twice, defended subs. What did you want him to do, sub Mendes?

WOW what a card, holy shit! One of my favorite UFCs so far. I had mcgregor to win, but mendez wresting was very good that fight. I thought the ref ended it a little early but it was a great fight regardless. You can tell Mendez wasn't prepared for this fight, he looked gassed in the first round.

That first spinning back kick landed hard and a lot of kicks after that landed hard to the body. It affected Mendes, I thought his gas would be better than it was.

Yeah those early kicks were a factor. I expected more out of Conor that fight, but he got the job done.

I'm not sure what more you can ask of a guy than finishing someone in the second round. Whom even the champ couldn't finish.

Was that nose pick really Rory then?

Thanks for a great night of chat guys. I'm at the point where i'd rather sit at home and shoot the shit here than head to a bar or bww for fights.
