Following in on the footsteps of TUF Brazil 1 champion, Cezar Ferreira, UFC featherweight Sheymon Moraes has also been spending his time driving around the streets as an Uber driver, in order to expand his income.

As Sheymon explained to Combate, he doesn’t think he did too badly against Zabit Magomedsharipov, considering he was coming off a 18-month layoff.

“It was so frustrating, because I was really prepared,” Moraes said. “I think it was the best training camp of my life. I knew I had a tough guy in front of me, but I was very confident. Unfortunately, my body just shut down during the fight. I’ve been out for almost 18 months. I think that’s what the problem was. I had no timing, no rhythm, as if I had 50 rubber bands holding me back. Still I didn’t do so bad for a guy who was almost out for two years."

Now, Sheymon wishes to put his Uber days behind him, so he can invest all of his time into his MMA career."

Sucks when these guys and girls have to work part-time or even full-time jobs to make ends meet, while fighting in the UFC. But if you get injured and are out for 12-18 months, it kind of hard to expect to pay some of these lower level fighters enough to allow them survive during that time.

Tough business is more ways than one.

Shit like this never ceases to be really sad to me. What the fuck man? No salary, no training stipend, no injury stipend, arbitrary booking practices, only extremely basic health insurance, and a triple digit number of fighters who don't even make a living wage fighting for the "major leagues."

At what point is this shit supposed to change? When the UFC is worth $10 billion? $20 billion?

There's so much upside to just putting an extra $20 million a year into making sure people can afford to train full time, and not just for the publicity. It's just kind of sick at this point.

if all fighters on the roster could train because it's their full time job - holy fuck! the fights would be so incredible. every fight on the card would absolutely bring the fire.

Training more + better trainers & equipment = better fighters

Or it could become a case where two very skilled fighters fight tactically, and we end up with even more decisions than we’ve seen the past year or two.

Yea its pretty sad a fighter has to work along sides the likes of CMNH

@conor mcgregor nut hugger how much do you make a night shuffling around fags and drugs dealers?
Depends on a lot of different factors - what night it is, whether or not it's a holiday, whether there's an event going on, and more, but a weekend night will typically net anywhere between $75-200.

So what are the costs of driving around a night, how much is there at the bottom line if you cut your expenses of that 75/200

I’d probably have a system where purses are still the majority of most fighter’s income, but if they got injured or otherwise not booked for 12 months they wouldn’t be destitute. Even $1k a month would help a lot for lower tier guys.

I’d also look to cull the roster by at least 120 fighters if not more. Fewer fighters means the existing ones get more more fights, and thus more exposure on average, and more chances to become a star, while the average fan would know a larger amount of the roster, and thus care more about your average card, even if we didn’t have extra cards.

Exciting fighters would still get more career opportunities, and more chances at fight night bonuses (bringing back the small under-the-table ones might help too). And if the UFC allowed them to have sponsor banners again, exciting fighters might get more income that way too (and overall).

This could easily go in conjunction with an in-house farm league, say for Men’s FLW-MW for overflow, where prospects can get some seasoning and a chance to create buzz, and fading veterans might get an extra chance. It would very explicitly be a place where people fight with the idea that if you’re successful
you go to the UFC.

Meanwhile, MMA would attract more athletic talent since it would be more clearly a place one can make a decent look living, and the UFC loses fewer fighters to other organizations.

And if we do have a slight uptick in dull tactical fighting, I’m still okay with that trade-off.

Gas is easy to calculate. If you're driving a normal car that gets 25-35 mpg, about $10 would be spent on gas for a $75 night, and about $25 for a $200 night. Note that the numbers I gave were net though, so gross is around $85/$225.

Wear and tear is more difficult to approximate.

Most retarded thing ever. All you need is a 4.6 to keep your account active. If you need to buy ratings then you're doing something wrong. I have a 4.92 and I give these retards nothing.

I have extra chargers but I've stopped even mentioning them because I don't care. If you see them good for you if not tough shit.
