I was in a conversation with a friend the other day and we were discussing the fact that nearly every superhero either stumbled onto their power and then decided to do good or was born with their power. There aren't many heroes who went looking for power solely to do good. Dr. Strange springs to mind, but he didn't do it for virtuous reasons. He just wanted his hands back. Iron Man built his power source, but he was trying to escape captivity.

Captain America is actually the only person I can think of who went in search of power to do good. Even he wasn't really seeking it. He just wanted to enlist to fight the Nazis and ended up being recruited to some weird program.

Is there anyone?

I talked about it over on the GG page. I don't think Bats is altruistic. I think he's just living out a very personal long form nervous breakdown in the wake of his parents death. He trained to avenge their deaths en masse not unlike Frank.

Well your own interpretation doesn't trump the official story or the generally accepted notion that Bruce Wayne trained himself to fight crime. You're saying he never actually intended to help anyone and just spent all those years training to get revenge? Nonsense and your opinion is further diminished by your mockery of a child who witnessed his parents' murders.

Bruce deserves that mockery. He has appointed himself an extrajudicial serial assaulter against other victims of trauma who chose a life of crime when he could have devoted his life to preventing crime in far better ways, particularly with his massive wealth in a city so rife with inequality. Batman is a quasi-hero at best.

Your criticism of his methods are a strawman. He still developed his abilities to be a hero. I answered your question
