I think you answered your question then. Nothing wrong with a good iPod or phone and build a digital collection on iTunes or Amazon. Music is an awesome hobby, and like any hobby, it can be expensive. But I wouldn't say that records are more expensive than the digital way, unles of course you use Pandora or Spotify. But that is not really having your own music, and it's not really paying the artists for their work.
