With a little more than six weeks to go, UFC Fight Night 127 finally has a main event.

UFC officials today announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum (23-7 MMA, 9-2 UFC) will face former Bellator champ Alexander Volkov (29-6 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in the headliner of the March 17 event, which takes place at The O2 in London and streams live on UFC Fight Pass.

Werdum currently sits at No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA heavyweight rankings, while Volkov checks in at No. 13.

Werdum with a lot more on the line in this one. I think he beats Volkov, but a loss to him would knock Werdum out of title contention.

AHHH I KNEW IT was going to be Volkov! I said in the other thread I was giving up on it (for magwar I mean), but clearly, it was okay that I gave up on it, because I don't think I'd want to take him against Werdum of all people. Idk. I will have to go back and watch his fights again. But really, idk.

If Werdum wins this, he gets next after DC, for sure. It really doesn't even matter what Cain does, who he beats, how spectacularly. Werdum earns it the hard way.

As for Cain

2 fights in the last 4 years

that should push you to bottom of rankings IMO

Not only has he fought only 2 times in 4 years due to training like an imbecile, the last fight was a loss where he looked horrendous and like the overrated fraud he really is, and the win before that loss was due to Travis Browne lol.

Cain is the most overrated heavy in MMA history. Decent striking offense great wrestling but horrible striking defense, no sub ability and his game plan consists of headbutting you against the cage because the refs let him get away with it.

Yeah, it's so annoying when I still see morons say Cain would beat Fedor, it's insane. The toughest fights for prime Fedor in Pride would be Cormier and Jones, I am okay with people saying "Cormier would beat Fedor", but Cain? I hate how refs let him do this Matt Wiman thing where he just will clinch you against the cage and literally bury his on the fighters chin and headbutt in close quarters.

The speed difference of Prime Fedor blows away any version of Cain. Prime Fedor also had an iron chin and amazing durablity, I would not say Cain has a glass jaw but he for sure does not take hard strikes anywhere close to as well as Prime Fedor. Cain would never hold up to the offensive onslaught of Prime Fedor. Shoot even 40 year old with a chin not like he used to have still hit Mitrone so hard he was going in for a finish. Prime Fedor would be able to absorb some strikes from Cain, and he had incredible Takedown defense and he would just destroy Cain with offensive strikes.

It's not that Cain sucks, he is a wonderful fighter, it's just he never was anything close to Fedor and it's such an insult to even say he was, Prime Fedor was so great it was beyond belief. Fedor would actually be a below average size lhw if he fought at 205. Fedor,Mirko,Overeem,Werdum,BigNog,Arlovski,Stipe, and very soon Ngannou will all rank higher than Cain alltime at heavy.

While I completely agree Werdum would deserve the next shot, from an intrigue standpoint, I would actually rather watch Cain vs Stipe.

Volkov's wrestling is awful so he is the one guy that Werdum can take down and he won't last a minute on the ground with Werdum. His striking also hasn't really evolved IMO - he used to be my favorite HW prospect a few years ago but he throws strikes with no power and he looks like he lost his soul when he was looking for a title shot in Bellator but got wrestlefucked by a mid level guy (Tony Johnson I think?).

His striking against Nelson didn't look much different from when he was throwing combos against a beyond gassed Brett Rogers and still couldn't finish. IMO he should throw less strikes with more power.
