I intentionally work in a field that is mentally challenging and, well sometimes that can be exhausting, most of the time that is a positive aspect to the job.


One of my friends is a really smart guy and works an assembly process where he basically does the same thing over and over and over with little to no thought. He prefers this as he finds the job takes no mental energy from him at all. He then gets all of his satisfaction in life from his Hobbies. The job is just a necessary space-filler for him. The idea of finding "a job you love" doesn't even register for him.

Anybody in a similar situation to my friend?

Stress free and self employed is my gig...I listen to 40 hours of podcasts/music per week to stimulate my mind

I have a fairly High IQ, but I certainly am not applying it to my Job

Used to run large crews and projects and the stress was a bit unhealthy for me.

No. I love playing with high quality cutlery. I love having quality stones and belt sanders. Love learning to hone my craft as I do blades, both my own and others. Wish I made more money, but I still have fun at work. It's quite amusing to have someone ask why they should pay 400 bucks for a knife, but they (much more often than not, chefs) handle the blade for a few seconds, feel the balance, and test the edge, know they have lifetime free sharpening, then basically say "Take my money."

Cutco screwed me over when I worked for them, saying I wasn't making enough calls. They said they were withholding my check, I said "OK, I'm withholding your knives" (that they gave me for demonstration purposes) and never went back. By sharpening them yourself, you void the warranty, but I doubt they would have honored the warranty for me anyways.

And before you joke about Cutco, they were featured on Modern Marvels Worlds Shapest episode. They are far from the taco bell of knives.

Since when do they give you a set? Their entire business model is based on the salesman buying a set.

The salesman is just as much a customer

I was going to school full time, driving pies while stacking that with "other deliveries", and Cutco was my lowest priority of those.

They never 'gave it' to me. They let me use a pair of their scissors, a spatula spreader, a petite carving knife, a chef knife, a butcher knife, a full size carver, a paring knife, and a cutting board for demonstration...and a few steak knives.

Per wiki... Seems theyve had various policies

While Vector required a deposit on the sample kit representatives were issued in the past, this was changed in 2011 and deposits are no longer required from representatives.[9][10][11][12]

Picked up a real nice vintage Cleaver at a yard sale recently

sells for 200 or so on eBay.

I got it for 6 bucks

She cuts right thru knuckles/joints on meat.

I use walnut oil to keep wood handle properly protected...is that the right oil?
