We might be streaming Bellator events by this fall....

Viacom, the massive corporation that owns Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV, among other networks, is planning to kick-off its own over the top streaming service by Fall 2018. The eventual service will compete against the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, CBS All Access and HBO Now.

The corporation’s service, should it launch on time, would beat the Disney-owned streaming service to the punch, which is set to host a number of Star Wars-centric TV series.

Viacom CEO Bob Bakish revealed plans for the streaming service (via Deadline).

Last year, Viacom removed most of its programming from Hulu, in an attempt to encourage viewers to stick to the traditional cable subscription model. Now it seems this was only a step towards Viacom launching its own service.

“We do not view this as a substitute product,” Bakish said. “We view this as a complement.”

So it's just an assumption on my part, but it's not hard to imagine some Bellator content sneaking it's way into this. Maybe a new place to view prelims?

Bellator = WCW (WCW had Ted Turner Money, Bellator has Viacom money)
UFC = WWF/WWE (The O.G, WWF was the first major promotion to take over, UFC is the same here in the U.S)


How will this play out though?

WCW made big mistakes ...I think Bellator as long as they keep listening to the fans input can easily overtake the UFC who has neglected what the fans have requested for years now.

IF they keep snagging young talent via scouting, and old war dogs from the UFC...

It could easily happen...shine wears off and eventually nobody remembers who was best in the beginning(pridefc)

That is exactly how the WCW overtook the WWF in the 90's, they snagged all the Old Dogs which the fans still loved, this brought over many viewers.

Bellator is doing pretty much the same thing, they are signing all the Old Dogs the UFC thinks are washed up and done, and like you said if Bellator can "showcase" their older fighters in "Legends" fights ...while stacking those cards with their up and comers ..that will be a great way to build up young prospects.

*Bellator should avoid at all costs making the mistake the UFC did by throwing their "Legends" into fights with young prospects. The idea of that is that the Young Prospect will add a Legends name to their Fight Record. But going that route kills the mystique / aura that "legend" brings to the table.

I'm down with whatever as long as they stop tape delaying cards.

Although I'm getting tired of having to sign up for stupid subscriptions, I can see this being the future of television though, subscribing to a series of services as if you were doing a la carte cable packages. Woof. I already have netflix, hulu, amazon prime, I get HBO with cable, and I'm going to need to get disney, and now viacom? CBS can jump in a lake, forcing me to use the service to watch the new star trek. Fine, I won't watch it.

Where WCW screwed up that Bellator should play close attention to is that they let that older talent call the shots and pushed those guys (Hogan, Hall, Nash, etc) over the young talent they had (Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guererro, Big Show, etc).
