it became known as fruitbooting and people lost interest. it was getting pretty gnarly, too. these japenese brothers had some on the scene for 5 years or so and were throwing insane tricks
"rollerblading" sort of took over skateboarding for 5-10 years, but then skateboarding regained the "cool" sport. thats my best guess. just popularity
i grew up with mike and he's literally my hero. original member of team rollerblade. became nearly a scratch golfer but never made it big time. and then decided to start fighting, and did some regional shit, WEC, (and lost to nam pham in the fight to get on TUF lol). that kind pissed me off, bc mike was known as the one person you didnt want to mess with in our town 15 years before that lol
but my point is. mikes my hero. so i used to skate hardcore. and i love the sport...still
I miss the old street luge thing back in the old xgames where they'd go crashing into the hay bails and shit lol

I wish I saw qualifying. I like solo a lot better. Racing with people sort of takes on riding ethics that are non-kosher. Riding's best when charging the mountain solo or with friends. And in wither scenario, the only opposition is the mountain itself
I hate how your starting lane makes such a big difference in boarder cross group
Ya, starting lane and starting time can make a big difference, that's why qualifying well is so important
Youd like this course for charging the mountain, they are fucking flying
So many speed checks coming out of landings for the next jump
The one Canadian missed a speed check and landed past the landing zone for the jump and wiped out pretty good, he was able to get up and still quality though

There are some cool passes for sure. But the riders are so close in skill and speed. And it's not like track where u can turn it up and pass someone. It's physically dangerous passing in boarder cross. U almost have to disregard your opponents health to make moves to pass
So the sport favors people who bigger assholes and willing to jeapordize not only their own health by riding hard, but the health of another. Fuck that. Save the fighting for the ring. It should be man or woman vs the mountain iMO

I can definitely see what you're saying but personally I've always viewed that as part of the sport
I like to look at the head to head downhill race (snowboarding) as the man or woman vs the mountain
Different perspectives but I do wish they still had a straightup race in the Olympics as well
The lane is super important, you absolutely do not want to get boxed in off the start
