Stephen Thompson is a little confused about his main event booking against Darren Till at UFC Liverpool.

“Wonderboy” admitted that he had no idea who the Liverpudlian was when he was first approached about a potential bout. At that time, Thompson had broken his two thumbs in his win over Jorge Masvidal, which made a meeting with Till out of the question.

“To be honest with you, I didn’t even know who this guy was when I was approached,” Thompson told Ariel Helwani on the latest episode of The MMA Hour.

This should be a fun fight with two rangy strikers. This is like modern version of those throwback karate vs. muy thai style matchups. Not sure who to root for, but I'll be watching this fight for sure.

I'm not that superstitious, but sometimes saying things like "not that impressed" and "this is a mistake" are said right before that person gets their ass handed to them. Not always, obviously - but Thompson may eat some humble pie.

Should be a great fight. But i thought Till also came up in karate. Im not exactly sure but should be a helluva fight
From Wiki

Till spent much of his early MMA career in Santa Catarina, Brazil where he was part of Astra Fight Team. He compiled an amateur record of 3-0 before turning professional, and had a total of 11 fights in Brazil and one fight in Argentina. Till fought eight times in 2013 alone, and his record was 12-0-0 with seven TKO/KOs before joining UFC.

Maybe so. I thought I heard an interview with him recently where he said a lot of his training in Brazil was heavy on the Muy Thai...but I could certainly be wrong. He may have both karate and muy thai in his background....I'm not sure.

The thing with the word "impressed" is that with pro fighters of Wonderboy's caliber, he may legitimately not be impressed with Darren Till's performance. He's seen a lot and while we would be impressed, we are not on any level approaching these guys and their timing and experience. We could hear that answer and think it's disrespectful but it may be entirely objective and fair from his perspective.
Till may not be that impressed with Wonderboy's tactics either as he's no doubt seen his share of similar approaches.

Wonderboy has wins over Rory, Whittaker, Masvidal, Hendricks and has faced Woodley twice. It's going to take a lot to really impress a guy like that.

Playing the "I didn't know who this guy was" card. A good move. It'll rattle his cage
