Shania Twain has apologized after telling a British newspaper that she would have voted for U.S. President Donald Trump if she were eligible.

In an article posted on the Guardian's website Sunday, the Canadian singer said she would have supported Trump because "even though he was offensive, he seemed honest.

The comment was met with both praise and condemnation online, and led the Timmins, Ont., native to apologize in a series of tweets Sunday evening.

She said the question caught her off guard, and she regrets answering without providing more context.

Twain says she is "passionately against discrimination of any kind," and does "not hold any common moral beliefs with the current president."

I don't think it's fair how people come to that conclusion. I don't know why trump is any more racist than Bush. I don't recall Bush ever getting it this bad.
I agree but every racist I know voted for him because they think he feels the same way they do. I did not vote for him but he is now The President and he has my full support and I hope he becomes the greatest President ever.

I think they tend to vote Republican when they vote between Republicans and Democrat. Little to do with who the candidate is.

Many people voted for him because he is a racist.
You being serious here?
I'm trying to gauge how many, and why, intelligent people have come to the conclusion the Donald Trump is racist toward any particular "race", despite a lifetime of actions that display opposite to that charge.

It's easy to see why the stereotype spread but it's not exactly a fair one.

It's because he's old, rich and white and comes from money. He fits that old boy stereotype and people just assume that old rich white people have preconceived and racist notions about minorities and poor.

Wrong.
It's because of things he actually you know ... said himself.

Oh and this:
Inside the government’s racial bias case against Donald Trump’s company, and how he fought it

And if you feel like a more comprehensive list:

I don't think you need to be rich to have those notions
