Hello cunts,

While everyone focuses on your Leonard Garcia/Diego Sanchez specials, sometimes ridiculous judging happens in fights that are otherwise uncontroversial and nobody notices.

I didn't watch UFC Santiago live, still haven't watched most of it and probably never will. But I did watch round 1 of Maia-Usman. Maia easily won that round. Had the more effective striking, grappling, octagon control and clearly did more damage, even briefly stunning Usman. A boring round, but an absolutely clear one.

It seems that every single MMA media member gave Maia that round according to MMA decisions.com. I can't be sure of this - maybe some dipshit gave Usman that round and then in turn gave Maia a round he didn't deserve - but it seems likely that it is unanimous that Maia won it (because he clearly did).

Not only did some judge give the round to Usman, but MMA decisions has the judges listed as 'unknown'. Now this could be simply that they haven't been given the info, but I can't find any info either.

Does anyone know what the deal was? Did they just get 3 Chilean cab drivers to score the fight? Considering they still use US judges in the established MMA market of Brazil, it seems odd that they would use locals in Chile for a main event.

yeah quite a few of the judges are listed as unknown, and I'm going to guess that it's because of the Chilean commission.

MMADecisions.com

the judge that scored it 50-45 obviously scored no rounds to Maia, but the other 2 did and so did most of the media (49-46)

The ref break when Mia almost had his back was bullshit. Mia would have won the fight right there if the ref did not break them.

it's funny because I was going to say that and then remembered it wasn't in Brazil :D
I'm guessing it was because it was the UFC's first trip to Chile and Chile doesn't yet have a commission.

Not sure if any other major promotions have had events there. Maybe Combate Americas.
