I'm thinking about going down there to cheer on the construction workers. I drive a lezburu, so I'd probably get priority parking in the protester's parking lot, and then I could get out of the car wearing my MAGA hat and they'd all throw a fit.

San Diego Fence Provides Lessons in Border Control

Throwback.

In high population areas like that, the wall is an efficient and useful tool. But who knows that things like the existing double fencing that we have in disrepair, and which is used in many countries in the world, would be cheaper to implement and serve the same barrier purpose.

Before the fence was built, all that separated that stretch of Mexico from California was a single strand of cable that demarcated the international border.

Back then, Border Patrol agent Jim Henry says he was overwhelmed by the stream of immigrants who crossed into the United States illegally just in that sector.

"It was an area that was out of control," Henry says. "There were over 100,000 aliens crossing through this area a year."

Today, Henry is assistant chief of the Border Patrol's San Diego sector. He says apprehensions here are down 95 percent, from 100,000 a year to 5,000 a year, largely because the single strand of cable marking the border was replaced by double — and in some places, triple — fencing.

The first fence, 10 feet high, is made of welded metal panels. The second fence, 15 feet high, consists of steel mesh, and the top is angled inward to make it harder to climb over. Finally, in high-traffic areas, there's also a smaller chain-link fence. In between the two main fences is 150 feet of "no man's land," an area that the Border Patrol sweeps with flood lights and trucks, and soon, surveillance cameras.

"Here in San Diego, we have proven that the border infrastructure system does indeed work," Henry says. "It is highly effective."
The Democrats should quit fighting illegal immigration and conflating legal and illegal immigration. The reality is that a majority of Americans are against illegal immigration. An overwhelming majority of oppose things like Sanctuary cities that increasingly Define the social policies linked to the Democratic party.

The Democrats should handedly take the house in the midterms, and one of the only things preventing it is the doubling down of high-profile Democrats like those in California that are pushing policies counter to a great majority of Americans.

Construction began Friday just east of Border Field State Park to replace one of San Diego’s barriers along a 14-mile stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Customs and Border Protection.

This is the third border construction project to begin this year. Similar projects to replace existing fencing in Calexico and in Santa Teresa, N.M., are already underway. Funded during the first year of the Trump administration, the San Diego project will replace Vietnam War landing mats that were put up in the 1990s.

Administration officials describe each of these new barriers as part of President Donald Trump’s promised “border wall.”

“Under this President’s leadership, we have a renewed commitment to secure our border,” said Ronald Vitiello, CBP’s Acting Deputy Commissioner. “The new primary wall-project represents an important milestone in our work to secure the international border. Not only does it significantly upgrade our existing infrastructure in San Diego, it also marks the third concurrent wall project in the U.S. and reflects CBP’s unwavering commitment to secure our borders and protect our nation.”

I'd love to take a crack at some barrier strategies in a think tank.
I think if you can get past my measures, you deserve a shot at citizenship.

Honestly, they should set up American Ninja courses that are ten miles long, timed, with pitstops w/lemonade and fig newtons.

Trump is dropping the ball here on ratings gold.

Sounds like our current border, and they do get citizenship.

I don’t understand why anyone would not want to protect our international borders in such a way, on both sides. We have established and specific proper channels of entry.

If this pushes the price of avocados up again I’ll drive down there and give them what for.

Yes, I know we grow them in California but we still import loads.

most of the avocados come from michoacan I think costa rica also ships some iirc. it will definitely push the price up if the truckers have a harder time crossing the border I'm guessing this will slow them down, maybe it will drive California avocado prices down though as a side effect.
