Sometimes I think the UFC brass are truly clueless and everything good they pull off is a happy accident.

They have a 145lb division with one "star" in Cyborg and nobody to fight her. They have one potential opponent coming down the pipe from Invicta - a LEGIT 145lber who has looked good against dogshit competition. She'll most likely get obliterated by Cyborg, but you can at least build it into a decent fight.

So what do you do? Do you throw Megan in there with Cyborg right off the bat? Promote it as UFC champ vs Invicta champ and play up the fact that Cyborg is FINALLY fighting someone her own size or even bigger? Someone who has legit KO power.

Or maybe you bring Megan in and let her get her get her feet wet against some cannon fodder, maybe rack up 1 or 2 KO wins and further build the Cyborg fight?

Nah, how about we toss her in there with a grizzled vet former champ who's just going to beat and expose her. Also, her opponent has already fought and lost to Cyborg, and she doesn't even want to fight at 145 really, so we're just killing a potential match for Cyborg for no gain whatsoever.

Just proves the fact ive said in another thread.

Hollys record doesnt do her justice as a fighter.

The UFC used her star power for buys right away with some tough matchups and thats all she has done for them.

Holly has taken that as a champ and gained invaluable experience thru those matches that she may or may not have been ready for.

This match proves she is NOW elite. And Megan still needs work..

But that didnt stop them from making this fight now.

And cashing checks instead of building up there fighters.

This is probably the first of a trilogy anyway, and at least we didn't have to see Cyborg clown yet another overmatched opponent

I am obviously in the wrong here cause other than Holly, Cyborg and Ger...whatever the fuck her name is, I can't think of anyone else in that weight class.

Whatever...I can't stand her. Who else is in that weight class? wtf, I got some checkin to do!


edit: Dude, the UFC webpage only lists 5 women in that division, Tonya Evinger is in the top 5 and Yana Kunitskaya, who I've never heard of till now.

Yeah, I stand by my original statement, it's not a deep division.

My exact thoughts mate ridiculous. Megan should have been fighting Cyborg and Holm should have been given an easy fight to set up a fight with Nunes since there arent many compelling fights out there for her right now.

Agree totally what you said about Holly. The record does not show the full story of her losses and she is a draw and probably a fan favorite because she does step up and fight anyone. Not sure I heard her say too many times that she won't take a fight. And she doesn't sit on her ass for a year...she fights and takes fights that can be, and maybe were damaging to her in terms of title shots and stuff. She looked very good last night and so strong.

Not sure who they could have used to build up Megan tho. Just not a great many choices. And people know who she is now. Had she not fought Holly no one would likely know, or care about her. Now they get to watch her grow-they know her name now. Of course the same question...who is she going to fight.

at this point, bringing back Peggy Morgan for her could be a very realistic option. who else has grappling THAT bad at 145?

They did it before with Jake Shields vs Kampmann. Jake didn’t look too indestructible after that fight, leading to the GSP fight. He edged out a win though, so theres that.

This was very optimistic, but just didn’t lead to a new challenger, with both Holly and GDR wanting to go back to 135. Not well thought out
