Rhonda has gone off to be a fake wrestler and PVZ isn't good enough to win a belt, so the UFC should really just cut its losses and axe all 3 women's divisions.

Ffs the UFC created a 145-lb women's division for one fighter, and, as it turns out, the one other girl they didn't have to send to a Chinese buffet to make 145 has James Toney-level grappling.

To quickly describe the champs of each women's division:

115 - Nice girl in a weak division that very rarely has fights ending in a finish. Terrible division to watch in general.

135 - lesbian who isn't exciting any more

145 - literally the only woman in that division

The talent level in all 3 divisions is just lacking. Let's wait another generation at least before we give this experiment another try.

Thoughts?

They're not going to get rid of it. It's there to create a culture. Women make up a large percentage of the consumer population who take classes at the UFC gym. People are signing their daughters up for mma classes. It's money flowing all over the place.

It's also not just about empowerment of women or things like that - it could be using the idea that if a woman can do it, it seems safer for my kid, boy or girl. Even the men fighting may seem less off-putting psychologically to the mainstream if there are also women doing the same thing.

I think it's all about money, creating a culture that brings in more money from different avenues, and not just about good fights or viewership on a particular night. Just imo.

This is a pretty good take on it, seriously. As much as I'd love to agree I feel it just comes down to money in the UFCs pocket. As soon as they feel is not worth it financially it'll be axed. Personally I wouldn't miss it enough to complain about it.

I think the answer is using Invicta as the “home” of WMMA and then cherry picking interesting fights to air in UFC cards. The divisions are too thin to sustain themselves and to guarantee competitive fights.

The UFC is too big a stage to use to develop talent. It is a fairly new sport with a small talent pool. No disrespect to the women fighters but at this point the bulk of them are not nearly at the skill level to share the stage with UFC calibre fighters. This blind conviction to fill out cards with WMMA is only building resentment in many fans who already complain about watered down product.
Let these fighters get experience and improve their skills in smaller friendlier promotions.

totally agree, if women's MMA is to survive it should be on it's own two feet (or own two tits) ... i.e Invicta

it's got to fucking go, they need another 10-15 years to increase the depth in talent right across the board

It isn’t the ufc anymore it’s the Hollywood wme.......they won’t get rid of women as nuraknu @nuraknu said.....they are a business only mentality now and if they can sucker more people into watching based on mainstream perspective then it’s not going anywhere.

I should state I have no idea whether any of these fighters are actually quality or not because I will not watch them bloody each other up and I find women acting tough to be hilarious tbh.......record and fast forward for me, but wme does what they need to do to in order to recoup the billions they fucked up and spent

Do they really have a long term plan like that? it doesn't look like it.

I don't necessarily think they should get rid of it, but I do think they should do the responsible thing and put a warning screen before any WMMA match, letting people know what they're about to see is going to suck and if they need to use the bathroom or grab another beer, this is the time.

Idk, especially about the headliners, but whenever anyone has info on the business numbers, I have never seen anyone have insider info on the UFC Gym franchise, how much money it's making, or what statistics they're collecting to use to make decisions.

E.g. in my neighborhood, part of a UFC gym membership is that they show the ppvs at the gym for free. For the first couple of years, members were allowed to bring guests in for it as well. Then they changed the policy and instituted a cover charge for guests on ppv nights because of how popular it was.*

If you look at ufcgym.com, there are several pictures on the homepage, and only one has a man by himself - every other picture is either men+women or just a woman by herself, with the main image for the page showing men, women, and children - a boy and a girl.

*I do not know if this comes from the UFC or if the local owners pay for it like bar owners have to

I just remembered there's a 125 lb women's division and Tony Montana's daughter is the champion of it, apparently.

Obviously get rid of that one too after I forget about it again in 5 minutes...
