Why didn’t they just whack it??
They're licensed python hunters. They are required by law to kill the python humanely.

This means they have to kill it in one strike; they can't let it suffer.

@Darren tills m8 what are the requirements to be a licensed python hunter? Are you required to have a cooler full of natty light in your truck when you go after them?

I would not go out snake hunting due to mosquitos. I dont want third world diseases and hanging out with rednecks isnt my thing. But i always keep a cooler of guiness or corona in the truck

Just take a bath in mosquito spray and you're fine.

Pretty sure an axe will make short work of it.
A lot of times they bash the snake's brain in. I remember reading a story about a hunter who used a machete to decapitate a snake that had stuck its head out of the brush, and then he used a mallet of some kind to bash the snakes head in after the head was separated from the body.

I guess when the hunters take these snakes in to be weighed/measured/examined, they want to make sure they did everything legally so that they get paid.

to save money they should do that on site and discard it immediately

move on to the next...taking it in has little use and cost money that would be better used to maintain the ecosystem

just my take...estimate the weight and length and chop and drop...will be gone in 12 hours

To be fair. You can make some pretty bad ass shit out of snake skin.

so true

I bet it tastes decent to...would like to try it out

Rattlesnake was good...but I used salt pepper and bbq sauce

I would keep it and use it...but they probably euthanize it at the research facility

If you dont take it in how do you prove you caught it to get paid? While some may still hunt them for sport its still a business for alot of people.

timestamped picture before and after hatchet/axe?....throw head in a bag for proof of death?

Good question....but how much research needs to be done on an invasive species that is already known to be Invasive and numerous.

You do know these guys are from Florida right and how hard would it be to forge a timestamp on a photo.
