I will use an example on a situation that occurs many times a day, and is happening right now somewhere, and is a situation that has been brought up in movies, pop culture, classroom discussions maybe, and the topic likely has been on this forum at a time or 2 or more.
Here is the scenario I want to talk about to show you the difference, and I think easy difference to see, of bias that we both agree everyone has, and racism, which a very shitty minority of humans have.
So the scenario is of an Asian man or woman, middle aged or older, owning a convenience store, in a urban lower income area, with a lot of black people living there.
Let's say in this situation, that store has dealt with multiple thefts, food and alchohol thefts, perhaps even an armed robbery, and let's say in this scenario don't by people who happened to be black, and in particular young black males.
Now clearly their is a strong chance they will have a bias when they see young black males, and they could have had not had that negative bias, and that bias only has been developing due to situations they had to deal with. So in that sense, the negative bias they have, clearly they are justified. Because no one should be robbed, and not only lose the money but have to worry about also getting hurt or killed during the theft.
So bias would be them keeping an extra eye on those young black males, more so than say other people and other races. Maybe even they would check on the young black males if they went to a part of the store that was kind of hidden, to make sure they where not having items stolen. There is a strong chance the young black males in this situation, would look at them, and maybe feel it was racism, and maybe even say something to the Asian man or women, about it. But even though they would be accused of being racist, they where not. They where being bias, and in this situation they are justified, and I am telling you clearly even if others say they are racist, they are not. They are biased like all of us likely are.
Now, racism would be if as soon the young black males went to a more hidden part of the store, instead of going and quietly keeping an eye on them, if the Asian man or women went and directly just called the police, assuming they stole, or went and verbally berated them and accussed them of stealing before even checking to see if they even stole, that would be racist, and the easy and stark difference is that when they where only using bias, they still had the same worry, but they also dealt with it in a way that they where retaining both their own right and also maintaining the other person's right and simply in many ways using due diligence. But if they had go and call the cops everytime a black person goes to a hidden part of the store, before even finding out if they stole, then that would be racist because they had the same bias but then it turns into a racism because in the application they no longer are retaining the other person's right and matter of fact are violating the other person's right.
There are a million other examples, and it's only that you simply need to not mix up bias and racism and not try to say they are the same thing, Pontificate
