Figured this would be a fun discussion. There are always those fighters who show signs of brilliance, but just can't get over the hump when it comes to title contention. They have great wins on their resumes, are easy to root for, but just can't reach the promise land.

My list would include people such as:
Matt Brown, Donald Cerrone, Jeremy Stephens, Ross Pearson, Dennis Bermudez, Joseph Benavidez

Excluding former champs who probably won't win a title again and those who still have a reasonable shot, who would you say?

Elkins, most likely OSP, Vettori, Lauzon. I like everyone you listed. I can probably spend all day thinking of more.

Still holding out for Jeremy Stephens to wear some gold. I don’t want to say never, but his momentum is usually haulted by upper tier guys, most recently Frankie and Aldo.

Wish Jon Fitch had gotten back up there, as well. But he is doing fine outside the UFC.

Donald Cerrone. I just love his "all comers" style, but in his hay-day he always lost that important fight.

Nailed it with your first pick.
Matt Brown, Jim Miller, Joe Lauzon...people who fight tooth and nail and always bring it entertainment wise.
