Donald Cerrone made some strong statements regarding some issues within the Jackson-Winkeljohn Academy that his next opponent Mike Perry had previously brought up.

“I JUST ASKED WHEN I WENT TO GO TO ’55 AND THEN [MIKE] PERRY CALLED ME OUT AND WANTS TO FIGHT, SURE NO PROBLEM. BUT I WENT TO TALK TO GREG [JACKSON] AND [MIKE WINKELJOHN] AND SAY HEY, ‘THIS GUY’S BRAND NEW TO THE GYM, HE’S ONLY BEEN HERE ONE CAMP, A COUPLE OF MONTHS,’

I SAID, ‘I DON’T THINK THAT IT’S OKAY FOR HIM TO COME IN AND CALL ME OUT…THAT’S NOT RIGHT. SO IF HE IS DOING THAT I DON’T THINK WE SHOULD ALLOW HIM TO TRAIN HERE FOR THIS FIGHT,’

F*CKIN’ WINKELJOHN TELLS ME, ‘YEAH YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT YOU CALLED HIM OUT,’. HE’S JUST A SH*TASS AND LIES LIKE TO YOUR FACE SO TO ME HE’S LIKE, ‘YEAH, SURE NO PROBLEM WE’RE ALL CLEARED UP, WON’T HAVE ANY ISSUES,’

THE NEXT DAY HE CALLS ME ON THE PHONE AND SAYS, ‘YOU KNOW WHAT, I THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND IF WE DON’T HAVE PERRY, THEN I DON’T GET PAID, AND I NEED TO GET PAID FOR THIS FIGHT, IF YOU JUST PAY GREG I DON’T GET ANY MONEY FROM THE GYM SO WE’RE JUST GOING TO GO WITH HIM’. BASICALLY TELLS ME I’M NO LONGER WELCOME IN THE GYM. SAYS THE TEAM HAD A MEETING, BULLSH*T THE TEAM DIDN’T HAVE A MEETING, I TALKED TO EVERYBODY.

[THEY] DIDN’T HAVE THE F*CKING BALLS OR THE BACKBONE TO SAY IT TO MY F*CKING FACE WHEN I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH THEM. [JACKSON WAS] LIKE, ‘YEAH, WE’LL COME TO THE RANCH AND SORT THIS OUT,’. I’M LIKE WHAT THE F*CK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? YOU TELL ME I CAN’T COME INTO THE JACKSONWINK GYM, BUT YOU’RE GOING TO BACK DOOR AND COME TO MY HOUSE, AND WE’RE GOING TO TRAIN TO FIGHT ME WHILE PERRY’S AT THE GYM.

YOU SEE EVERYTHING HE DOES, AND THEN YOU COME TRAIN ME? NOT TO MENTION YOU’RE HOLDING CLASSES AND HE’S WATCHING. YOU MIGHT NOT BE TRAINING HIM TO BEAT ME, BUT THERE’S A LOT OF PEOPLE THERE THAT HAVE TRAINED WITH ME FOR F*CKING YEARS.”

“NOT ONLY CAN SOMEONE JUST RING THE DOORBELL AND TRAIN, BUT IF YOU’RE A COACH, YOU CAN JUST COACH THE CLASS. IT’S THAT ASININE. I SEE A NEW STRIKING COACH, WRESTLING COACH, OR JIU-JITSU COACH IN THERE TWICE A WEEK PROBABLY.

OUR MAIN WRESTLING COACH OF JACKSONWINK, THE GREATEST SCHOOL IN THE F*CKING WORLD…IS A RECEPTION TO A CHIROPRACTIC UPSTAIRS. HIS GREATEST CREDENTIALS WAS HE WAS A JUNIOR ASSISTANT COACH AT A COLLEGE, DON’T KNOW THE COLLEGE NAME, WHO GOT FIRED FOR SELLING THE KIDS STEROIDS. THAT’S OUR WRESTLING COACH OUT OF ONE OF THE GREATEST SCHOOLS IN THE WORLD.

HE’S TERRIBLE. HE’S F*CKING GOD AWFUL TERRIBLE. HE WATCHES VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE AND TRIES TO TEACH PEOPLE THINGS THAT DON’T EVEN F*CKING WORK.”

When he discussed their team’s winning percentage as of late, it got me thinking... anyone happen to have any metrics on that? I’d love to know how this has changed over the years (for Jackson-Wink and other big name gyms).

What he didnt say was that Jackson left because of military contracts and local PD etc.. that's why. He's making real money with that.

he dropped something about Elite OSM, the office of Dr. Beau Hightower (who my wife calls "The Body Whisperer") , who is far more than just a chiropractor . It was hard to understand wtf Cowboy was really trying to say about that , except that he's pissed at Jack/Wink , but since he mentioned the chiropractor upstairs, I'm chiming in in support of them , the whole team of therapists at Elite OSM.

Cowboy is sometimes thinking literally as the word is coming out. Makes him tough to understand.. but he seems to rarely lie. He has no reason to

Interesting listen. I don't have time to follow this stuff closely, not even hometown situations, but the fact that
it is/was home makes it engaging. What surprised me was how both Jackson/Wink facilities are smaller than
what I'd have thought. Cowboy talks about living in a closet, and that's about all the room there is at the main joint
downtown where the "chiropractor" and dorms are. Elite OSM has a nice setup , but the gym and everything else
seems cramped. Which has nothing to do with the interview, which is "informative " . Now I understand what he's
saying about the wrestling coach who works at OSM ; maybe I met him there (OSM) on one visit. Well, there's my
cue again: anybody in the area needs work, OSM is the place to go (no drugs or surgery, just all kinds of great stuff
that works great on stuff that doesn't need drugs or surgery (see what I did there !). I do the therapy "homework"
those folks showed me every day and it keeps my old ass going , I swear !

ps : hell no way I'd ever go there to "train" . I hated wrestling and I'm not a fighter. Oh yeah,
and I'm an ancient relic compared to most of you. That shit would put me in the hospital !!!
I bounced up off a concrete floor the other day after a big slip and fall , and didn't get hurt
(mini-whiplash, visit to chiro here in Hooterville) , so I'm a tough old bastard, but I'm not stupid

WE will now return you to your regular programming...

It's sad to see how disloyal JW are. They pushed guys like Diego Sanchez and Rashad Evans out of the way to make room for guys who were more likely to be champs. Now they're pushing Cowboy away for PMP? Really strange.

Winklejohn responds...

'Cowboy' Cerrone blasts Jackson Wink 'puppy mill'; Mike Winkeljohn responds (updated)

“Loyalty is two sides,” the coach told MMAjunkie. “‘Cowboy’ is not loyal to anybody in the gym. He’s on his own. He does his own thing. He has not, from what I can remember in the last 10 years, ever helped anybody out with their own camp. He’s as narcissistic as they come.”

“I put up with it for a long time because Greg has the biggest heart in the world,” Winkeljohn said. “He’s like my little brother. But at the same time, it was causing division.

“And by the way, of the teams that went out there, I think it’s 100 percent of people lost, because ‘Cowboy’ wants to do what he wants to do on his timeframe, and it didn’t work for the fighters that train out there at the gym. So that made our percentage look bad, because we lost a lot of fights because of it.

“If Perry wasn’t at my gym, I’m so much happier now that I got rid of the division in my gym (and) somebody that doesn’t want to help others and wants to do his own thing. It has absolutely nothing to do with Perry, and everything to do with Perry.”

Later, Winkeljohn added: “If I suck so bad, he absolutely would want to fight Perry. I hope he doesn’t back out of the fight now because I suck so bad.”

“What would ‘Cowboy’ do if it was his gym? Well let me think,” he said. “If I wanted to go into his gym use it when I wanted to, not be respectful, not help others, pull people and coaches away from the gym, and do things for myself, and then tell the new gym not to work with this person they’ve been working with because it’s all about yourself, what would ‘Cowboy’ do? I know what ‘Cowboy’ would do: The same thing I did, and that was basically, ‘Sorry kids, (expletive) that.'”

Hmmm...well, if you're not happy there, move on . All gyms are businesses . There are always at least 2 sides to the story.

Yep and I can see both sides having their pain points. I do side with Cowboy a little bit since it sounded like this started years ago and has devolved into the situation that blew up. I'm sure Cowboy was being emotional about this (he was drinking and hitting a J while talking about this stuff) and Winklejohn has a business to consider etc etc. But again, it sounds like this has been brewing for a while and with other fighters having come out in the past and making their comments I think the culture change in the gym is the root cause that JW is failing to acknowledge here.

IMHO, loyalty is a huge element in MMA gyms regardless of how "selfish" the sport is. MANY people will not leave their gym and will stand by them due to loyalty to the instructors, head coaches etc when they probably should be looking around for more appropriate training for where they are in their careers. It happens on all levels, it's not just elite fighters going through this. Many times gyms don't show the same loyalty in return so conflict ensues and we have a situation like this.

The problem with this Winklejohn statement is that it doesn't address any of Cowboy's complaints. It also makes it sound like Cowboy's issue was with Perry which he very clearly outlined it isn't.

Someone posted it earlier in the year. It was staggeringly low for what was one of MMA's premier camps not long ago.
