So all I'm seeing here is that UFC ever got traction due to piracy. Just saying!
Guilty trader here. But never live Ufc. Paid for every PPV gladly.

Well we had to pirate to see the fights we wanted to. I had a decent circle of pals, we all made sure that basicly every MMA show known to man was on a list ready when requested.

Again Splinty @Splinty , I know you know all about the old trade circles. Just thought I'd add something for people interested on how it was done during the Internet's infancy.

BJTT-Rizzo @BJTT-FrankRizzo I made a kitana for my buddy that just got married as a wedding present. It turned out freaking awesome. I am going to make 3 more. The blade was so sharp that it would cut the devil himself.

went to a family friends house to watch Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone on PPV. He had one of those old school black box descramblers. Before the movie began there was this advertisement for UFC 2 coming up in a few months. We both looked at each other perplexed. I told some of my classmates in school about what i had seen. Some of them said that they had seen UFC 1 and that some people died in it and there was this monkey-like guy that never got up and just swept people from the bottom. They said he was from the amazon jungle. I was even more intrigued after hearing all these crazy stories. Little did i know that those kids were confusing UFC with the movie Bloodsport starring Van Damme.

Started renting every UFC from the local video store. Had no clue when the next one would arrive but would just randomly check every now and then. It was in the porno section.. While most of the kids were sneaking into the adult section to secretly ogle the porn covers, I was there for the UFC videos. They were like "wow look at the boobs on that girl" and i was clutching a UFC VHS thinking "OMG its Royce Gracie!" The clerk let me rent it since we would talk UFC and he knew it it didn't deserve an adult rating.

After UFC 20 or something they stopped carrying it. Said it was too violent and not family friendly but somehow they kept the porn. I was disappointed the day I realized the porno section only carried porn. Perhaps one of the few boys in history to have made this declaration.

I started watching again In the UFC 50's i think when it made the papers again.

Nope. I was like why is the balding actor the commentator
Ok, my memory fails at times so take this with a grain of salt.

He had a gig with the Ufc(the teens). He would interview the guys right after the fight in a hallway type setting. He was good at it. He was young, still learning, and incredibly amped. His interview with MVA after the Pardo fight was awesome. Also when Matt Serra first won, Joe did a great job. Then he wasn't there..saw him on some sitcom radio something or other.

When Zuffa took over, Dana would interact with fans in a very good way. So different now...anyways he was very open to suggestions. I mean we'd post an idea and you'd literally see it implemented on the next show. Stuff like ramp, staredowns, pyro, individual music, and bring back Joe Rogan. We lobbied for him to get hired. Am I remembering right Joe Rogan @Joe Rogan ?

Friend of mine invited me to go hang out with his work colleagues at one the colleagues houses. Didn't know why I was going but did anyway. He bought ufc 1 on Ppv and I kept thinking this is going to be stupid, can't we watch boxing or something else? I was "in" after watching that

That's right you work with medals! I imagined you welding up angle iron and shit like that.jk You are too cool. What an awesome gift.

I want a Conan sword some day. I can weild that mother fucker at giant snakes and pray to Crom, dress the ol' lady up like Valeria, crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of their women. That's what's best in life. Its going to be grand.

My grandfather, who raised my brother and I for a few years when we were little, ran a very small ammy boxing club and we spent a lot of time there. My uncle got these crazy NHB style VHS fights from somewhere and we watched those. I drifted away from watching boxing and those insane vids but then my brother called me up and demanded I check out Pride. And...yeah. I don't know why but I connected on a deeper and more emotional level with MMA than I did with boxing.

I suppose I find masculine conflict (I know women fight now, but they didn't then) comforting and homey in some weird way, haha.

In 1994 A mate of mine told me about this new sport he'd heard about called Extreme Fighting, it sounded awesome and we wanted to see it. He went on a holiday to the USA and brought back videos of UFC 1 and 2, we were hooked from the minute we started watching.

I still prefer the original format to the pussified, over hyped, WWE style UFC events we see now. Watching Ronda Rousey fight hand picked tomato cans just doesn't do it for me.

I was a boxer with the P.A.L program in Los angeles, were they take kids from the ghettos and teach them a sport.

anyways like any person who trains in combat sports you keep raising the bar and pushing limits. the boxing lead to muay Thai and judo, then no gi bjj.

while I was training at my MT and grappling gyms, before mma gyms came along you trained them separately this was 2001 or 2002.

I was training with future mma/mt fighters from smaller orgs and they taight me the ropes of what mma/nhb/valetudo was so I watched ufc 37.5,ufc 47 ,king of the cage dvds, superbrawl a.k.a icon sport, pride and rented ufc dvds and vhs then came Brazilian events like meca with wanderlei silva.
