hang on. this is super-newsworthy for mma. this is a significant business deal. he hasn't opened a gym, or got a great deal from Nike - he has walked into a massive brewery and said, 'bingo, I'm the big show. the world wants my brand and you know it.'

they have then built and invested around him. in terms of big, on-going business deals made by fighters and the reflection of true star power, this deal should not be underestimated.

also, mma journalists are people with (varying) journalistic skill who are primarily fans of the sport. if you are solely a journalist type, you would undoubtedly pursue some other career avenue.

so don't be too surprised or cry if they ever give any part of the sport a little push.

This wouldn't be an issue if they were otherwise totally independent professionals but we all know Conor has a truck outside the arena treating everyone with special gifts and that in turn this could sway mma media into his good favor. "Could " is the key word here. Real journalists don't leave themselves open to interpretation like this.

The few real journalist in MMA come from a different perspective, so pretty spot on.

As I said in the past, it is largely due to the timing of MMA breaking big & the internet with social media.
People get a level of notoriety from Twitter & think that retweets is journalism
A lot of new(er) media are basically fanboys
Three guys I like to call journalist rarely (if ever) go to fights live.
That is not a slam to those that do. We need Helwani's & Raimondi's at the events & I think Raimondi has stepped up a lot
