I got that right away man, just some friendly flirting back at ya.I was hoping my smiley in my post following would be enough to let you know I was being sarcastic. I tried at least. I wouldn't ignore anyone here. Yet.
My godThis and the unwatch thread feature is a membership savior. We can ignore mods because I've done so. Wish we could ignore admins as well, if only their responses to a thread not pm or direct @'s. I dislike having to ignore an entire thread just because of admin comments. It's a real bummer.
That can be said just as easily in reverse, I have no time to waste on obvious trolls, the function is for them to me and spam artists, not abusers, it's talking, but if mods won't clean up their board I am going to find a way to bypass and I don't care if that makes me a coward toThere are only 2 posters here I considered using it for, but meh. It's just an internet forum.
Wait was one of them me?There are only 2 posters here I considered using it for, but meh. It's just an internet forum.
Dude I bet you never met jons forsberg! Sounds like you would get along fine hahahahaBasically, I reserve that for people who tend to racist, homophobic, sexist ranting.
And "bros", who's debate vocabulary soley consists of variations of "dickrider" and "faggot".
Ha! no, not specifically. But I'm sure I've met someone just like him.Dude I bet you never met jons forsberg! Sounds like you would get along fine hahahaha
I'm afraid that sort of mentality is prevalent here. Always ganging up on poor old paul harris or the count. It's like they make up ways to discourage me from being a fan on them, ridiculous it is.Ha! no, not specifically. But I'm sure I've met someone just like him.
I actually stopped talking about mma on Facebook because of people like that, getting sucked into useless exchanges where I'm trying to explain technique, talk about fight specifics, and the other is literally telling me to "take Aldos dick out of my mouth", because I don't think ConMan McFancypants is "the best fighter that ever lived".
It's the same mentality as what I call "team fans", people who argue that their local NFL team (or in my case, NHL) is the best, for no other reason than they love them. As opposed to "sport fans", who want to talk about what a teams weaknesses/strengths are, why they won/lost, or in this case what makes a particular fighter good, and what they might need to work on...
/rant
anyway... that ignore button! here's a great time to use it, huh?

I didn't even know this existed! I got one guy in mind. You know who you are motherfucker!
Fuck you, dickhead. Go die of AIDSIgnore is for cowards.
But if someone is abusing you, better to use it than leave.
If people are saying those things, it's a failure of moderation. I saw those things at the other place and never once used ignore.Fuck you, dickhead. Go die of AIDS
Black people are racist. Always complaining about white people.
Black people have the highest crime rates. Facts are racist? Lolololol
If I don't want to serve faggots, I shouldn't have to. How are their faggot rights more important than my religious rights?

I had over 50 people on ignore on the OG. It was a very useful feature. I simply did no wish to read their opinions. I honestly don't understand the logic in labelling that as cowardice. It's like saying that refusing FB friends or cutting toxic people out of your life is cowardly.
That said, there is nobody on this site that I've got on ignore.
Ok, that's your opinion. You haven't explained how it's cowardlyIf people are saying those things, it's a failure of moderation. I saw those things at the other place and never once used ignore.
Ignore defeats the purpose of a discussion board and is a shortcut imo. Skipping a post is just as easy as pretending someone never added anything to a conversation, which to me is more disquieting.
It's purely an opinion. As I said, if someone feels deliberately targeted or abused, it's better to use it than leave, but I just feel there are a number of tools to use before ignoring someone on this site. There is challenging the ideas, there's using the report system, there's using the rating system, there's getting peers involved in defending one's position. If you have to get to the ignore button, then there has either been a large scale failure of the site (which can happen) or there is someone saying some things that are somehow very personal, but maybe not universally problematic. In the latter case, I think using ignore is okay. In the former, it's worth fighting to hold the site accountable for its supposed values.Ok, that's your opinion. So if someone is an idiot/troll, I can:It's purely an opinion. As I said, if someone feels deliberately targeted or abused, it's better to use it than leave, but I just feel there are a number of tools to use before ignoring someone on this site. In the broader sense, I'm a speech hawk. I'm an unabashed feminist lgbtq ally socialist person of color so I have plenty to feel outraged about if I choose based on people's opinions, but I choose mostly to let them have their say and then refute it. One of the issues with using ignore is that people with problematic perspectives get to have their say and the people who would normally check them don't see it so they go unchecked. Eventually, other users start to feel like:
A) Well, no one's saying anything so this must be a popular opinion in this place
Or
B) Well, since s/he said that, I can say this effed up thing and it's cool.
To me, every member of a community has an obligation to participate in its culture and its monitoring. Ignore is an abdication of that responsibility, but I will grant you that is purely an aspiration. I'm not going to pretend I'm some person who always speaks up because I don't. Sometimes ignoring someone is the more sound course of action online as in real life. Unfortunately the way digital tools allow you to do it in effect erases their existence, which is sort of like killing them purely because of something they said. I think the culture of ignoring and blocking online has an impact on our psyche that eventually will manifest in our corporeal lives.
I see your point and agree that I'm being optimistic, but it's how I'm built. To me, individual ignore culture is troublesome, but realistically entrusting moderators or any institutional representative to be the arbiters of what is troublesome is too authoritarian for me too.So if someone is an idiot/troll, I can:
1) Challenge their ideas: No thanks. They're an idiot and I don't want to converse with idiots.
2) Report them: Be a grass? Snitches get stitches. And there is no crime in being an idiot. I just don't want to converse with one.
3) Give them a rainbow: Are you trolling now?
4) Get other people to support me: You've lost it
5) Ignore them: Yay!
Yet you claim it's a moderation issue.I see your point and agree that I'm being optimistic, but it's how I'm built. To me, individual ignore culture is troublesome, but realistically entrusting moderators or any institutional representative to be the arbiters of what is troublesome is too authoritarian for me too.
Use as thou wilt is the credo of user experience.

I laughed harder at this then I should havei ignored everyone and only read my own posts
Is this the general "you" you're using, or are you saying this is me? Because I'm not sure I did anything to warrant that. You troll passionate people for no other reason than you can, I have no use for you, you're the type of person I have no respect for.
Period end of story.
