The show is hot garbage now but the outright nihilism it's about to devolve into, and the incredibly pessimistic message about humanity it's going to deliver is going to be awesome. While the plot armor around several characters for the last few seasons was stupid, it looks like the writers weren't pussying out but just making sure they built people back up expecting fantasy ending, just so they can crush the hopes and dreams of people everywhere. Which I respect. So many people are going to be upset.
But just because you have the balls to carry through with the ending some fat fuck gave you, doesn't mean you can't also be hack writers that don't know how to get there. So much of the bullshit of the last few seasons could have been avoided.

Even I am slightly surprised at just how unhappy it's going to be though. I always thought the Fat Fuck's 'bittersweet' ending meant that either the 'goodies' beat the Night King, but then the baddies took over (so Jon and Danenerys are heroes but then Cersei kills them) or that the 'goodies' die while beating the baddies, or one goody has to sacrifice another goody to beat the baddies. Still some hope for humanity in the darkness.
But as you say, they're all going to be a bunch of cunts. It's not 'bittersweet' - it's just bitter.
Sansa is going to be the last one standing and she's ultimately the main character of the story. It's the story of an abuse victim just continuing the cycle of abuse, mistrust, jealously and hatred. Which makes a lot of sense and I give them props for that.
