Last time I went to Freeport, (2013) they looked like they had given up rebuilding everything after getting pounded annually.

How much would it cost to build a generic concrete bunker?
Yeah. Most of the old houses in North Florida are brick or concrete block, but the new houses are stuccoed unless you pay a lot more. The stucco doesn't hold up as well and requires more maintenance over the years, but is the economical option. Any kind of wood exterior is just asking for a headache.

We have a block house and workshop. I’m never afraid of being here during big storms save for fear of shit flying through the windows. Unfortunately I’ve found no easy way to add shutters but I’m almost hoping the windows break since they’re so old it would be nice to get some replacements.

I have no idea what is going on down there(SW USA) construction wise...
Many parts of the west use that type of construction and it is durable as it gets.
I helped build a few buildings in that style and they are still basically in mint condition basically after 10 years of decent winters and extreme winds(buildings are on a ridge overlooking valley so gusts hit 100mph)
Flooding is the thing I know nothing about...I shit my pants when my water heater fucked up 30 square feet of my floor...flooding looks horrible
