We have stringent building codes because of past hurricanes that have destroyed us.

You ever hear about the Burmese python problem in the Florida Everglades?

Yeah a hurricane (Andrew, 1992) destroying a snake breeding facility in southern Miami Dade county actually caused that. It wasn't caused by irresponsible owners who let their overgrown pet snakes go.

I can't speak for other U.S. cities, but I would imagine most in hurricane zones have better building standards than the Bahamas, a country where the average GDP per capita is about half that of the U.S.
Bruv you know I know what I’m talking about

Your building codes can only do so much against the fury of Mother Nature

Don't you Floridians ever get tired of this? The only good part of it is when the tv networks tie some guy to the pier and force him to report from the eye of the hurricane.

That's always compelling viewing.

It becomes part of your life from late August through October. We only really get hit once every 12 or so years (in south Florida it's been 1992, 2005, and 2017) so it's less often than it seems.

I will say, I'm enjoying not having to pay a ton of cash on the Turnpike, 408, 528, 414, and 429 right now

ABACO | Bahamas Press is reporting that more than 200 victims could be officially declared dead in Abaco alone in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

Piles of bodies are being left alongside the road and in the bushes of Abaco making the island uninhabitable. With no water, power, food and proper sanitation, widespread looting has taken place and has forced a local militia to form to protect their property.

BP can confirm the Cabinet has secured body bag materials to begin the process of removing and identifying corpses all through the affected communities in the hurricane’s aftermath as catastrophic conditions worsen on the ground.

While the official death toll from Hurricane Dorian remains at 23 for now, Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands projected that the final count will be “staggering”, as he revealed that additional morticians are being flown into Abaco and Grand Bahama to embalm the bodies that authorities have limited capacity to accommodate.

However, Dr. Sands said the government will bring in additional refrigerated coolers to properly store the dead.

So this is the aftermath of one of the tornados that have been stirred up in NC while they wait for the hurricane to arrive.

Wilmington is gorgeous, I almost moved there... but they definitely are not prepared for a storm like this.
