In all seriousness, the impeachment proceedings will go nowhere
Dems screwed up and they are going to sink Biden in the short term. Biden will need to be heavy on offensive. This is unlikely to touch him long term if he does so, but otherwise this is the tryout to see if he can handle the Trump storm in 2020.

I still think this is a massive mistake by the Democrats.

But firstly, that's not a transcript and that in itself raises questions that need to be answered.

Secondly, even in that memorandum, Trump brings up investigating Biden when the Ukrainian President mentions weapons, and that's where he says 'I would like you to do us a favor though.'

So, as I said, this doesn't vindicate or convict anyone. Both sides will claim it proves their story right.

I'm guessing Pelosi finally succumbed to the pressure from the left-wing faction of the Democrat party. She had been resisting calls for impeachment proceedings for a while.

It's blatantly obvious that, with the exception of a major scandal, such proceedings are only smoke and mirrors because the Senate is still controlled by the Republicans.

Agreed.

Trump froze funds ahead of time. He reminds Ukraine that we take care of them more than Europe. He asks Ukraine to look into Biden.

The implication is obvious, but not criminal. But that doesn't matter because criminality is not what is needed for impeachment. But that's also not how the Dems and others have framed this. So they will probably lose in the court of public opinion. And Trump was very good at keeping his language passive.

Dems and never Trumpers will push the line...

But they are failing to sell it to put pressure on the Senate.

A big nothing burger.

You don't talk about impeachment when you don't have a smoking gun. It's unbelievable how incompetent they are.

Impeaching Clinton was dumb. This is borderline retarded.

Yeah but even if impeachment fails, if the Republicans block it despite the public falling with the house, it will sink Trump 2020 and the GOP in the wake. That's why the public opinion push is so important and they are failing to build their case. It might be that this process is convoluted and takes time to come to an answer. But starting an impeachment inquiry before the transcript was released is just a small piece of bad timing showing they don't know how bad this is going to go for them.
Build the pressure, release transcript, push all the talking points as above, start the inquiry.

It seems the Dems fuck up in every way possible. It's like they've learned nothing from going with literally the ONLY PERSON Trump could beat in 2016.

At this point I'm waiting for them to endorse Warren over Biden.

I agree with all of that.

'High crimes and misdemeanors' can mean whatever the fuck they need to mean depending on what a significant enough majority of Congress wants them to mean.

Basically Andrew Johnson's impeachment came down to 'we don't like what the cunt is doing with Reconstruction and we think we've got the numbers to get rid of him'.

Not sure this clears him. Imagine this conversation from a past president...

USA: Congratulations on the big win.

Another Country: Thanks.

USA: We give you lots of money and every other country sucks.

Another Country: Yeah but corruption happens.

USA: Speaking of corruption, do me a favor and find a good prosecutor to look into my main political rival, I am fairly sure he did something.

Another Country: a'ight.

A lot rapey.

But those proceedings were a joke. Clinton was a poon hound, but trying to kick him out because he lied about having an affair? I know I'm oversimplifying it - but those proceedings had a "fuck that guy" feel to it. The GOP went after him because they didn't like him.

That's exactly what this stupid shit feels like, only the sides are reversed and there's even less of a reason to bring up impeachment.

Hopefully we don't end up with Trump telling the nation: It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is

for the record, I couldn't care less about impeachment. it's a waste of time, money & people's attn IMHO.

I do think a blowjob in the oval office (& lying about it) is less an impeachable offense than throwing around the US' might & money for your own personal gain.

IIRC, there might have been some obstruction of justice somewhere with Clinton, which is fair game & the real reason for the impeachment.

He lied under oath.
And I think he tried to convince Lewinsky to lie on an affidavit.
And tried to cover up the Paula Jones thing.

That's basically what it boiled down to. But it was really "Fuck that guy we don't like him".

Just like this shit with Trump is.
