Solo is also a standalone, and if people are honest with themselves it might be the best movie of the whole franchise.
Agreed. I was more referring to the episodic movies.

And I'll be the first to admit I went into Solo expecting to hate it and while I still didn't care for Han Solo's casting I still walked away enjoying it. Had they went the Mandalorian route and just made it a heist movie with a new smuggler character rather than Solo I would have loved it.

My wife saw it and enjoyed it enough to go back and watch the last two and she doesn't really like Star Wars so I applaud Abrams and company.
Yeah, the whole "you ruined my childhood because its not what I want" I'm getting really tired of. Look at the reviewer in the OP. Does he really look old enough to have been 10 years old in 1977?

I wasn't born till 82 and Star Wars was still a massive part of my childhood.

I was born in 83 and feel the same way, but I also acnkowledge that I got it second hand, so how I feel about it won't be the same as someone older or younger than me. It's certainly not my place to pretend that I have some sort of ownership stake in the franchise beyond what I want to put into it. I mean, did you actually grow up on Episode 4-6, and then after seeing Phantom Menace in theaters think to yourself "Yeah, this ongoing franchise seems like something I should invest 20 years of my life into"? I sure as fuck didn't.

Phantom Menace was an aberration and I really have only seen it that one time, but I read a lot of the books which were much more engaging, it is a very expansive universe.

I understand completely, and every film made completely ignores all of it. ROW was 8 films and 20+ years in the making, so again, I'm not sure why people are surprised that the films don't reflect what they themselves wanted. Personally, I wanted a Shadows of the Empire movie, but I'm pretty sure that isn't happening and I neither lose sleep nor take to YouTube to cry over it.

I was 10 years old in 1977. I took my 8 year old son to this latest movie, we both had a great time. Neither of our childhoods were ruined.

I watched it. enjoyed it, would watch again but wouldn't consider myself a star wars fan.
To the people who hated it....look at it like you would an episode of family guy, American dad, southpark, simpsons etc It will show you anything new but its still entertainment just nothing that you need to pay too much attention.
Also Check out 6 Underground - surprisingly good movie
