Seems like he is taking a tune up fight before signing with the UFC and fighting a ranked contender. He still ends up in the UFC. He just wanted to drive his value up. Sticking by my prediction.
Bas Rutten correctly predicted Fedor would make his return in japan and fight for what was then just talk of a new organization. I should have listened to him and I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up.

Fedor bleeding idiots dry is nothing new. The number of promotions on Fedor's office headstone is higher than Dana's even. He will bankrupt these fruitcakes and move on to where the best paydays are, the UFC.
Lashley doesn't get numbers or pull ratings. The idea he is a substantial draw at this point is a fiction. However he is an easy fight and Bellator is desperate after Dynamite failed so I guess never say never. Sure, I had no way of knowing a random bunch of nobodies would create a new promotion for Fedor, so I was wrong in thinking he'd go to the UFC off the bat, but the bulk of my article would remain true after he takes these guys money.
Unless Fedor can keep finding people who like dousing money in kerosene eventually the economics of MMA dictate he will be in the UFC eventually.

I think that 2.5 million figure is bullshit. Makes no financial sense. The Japanese MMA scene is a shadow of it's former self and the event is going to air on free TV on NYE.

Respectfully disagree. I highly doubt that Sakakibara would be launching this promotion if he didn't have big money backing him, and he wasnt confident in the demand of the Japanese market.
Seems like there are ulterior motives at play here with a portion of fans. Not you necessarily, but I've seen many saying the same thing you are. Seems like they're wishing for the downfall of Samurai, in hopes that Fedor will join the UFC or something.
That logic is really odd to me.

Those orgs weren't going anywhere anyways. They were bleeding cash in an early investment to get 'on the map' so to say. With or without Fedor, that was a losing strategy. Your insinuating that Fedor is the reason for their downfall after expenditure into his salary. If it wasn't Fedor, it would be someone else. And in plenty of cases it was someone else along side him.
I hear ya, and of course I would never wish for the downfall of an MMA organization. The more MMA being produced and the more options the fighters have, the better for the sport IMO.
Sakakibara can be confident, but a lot of business entrepreneurs were also confident in their markets and ended up failing and losing a lot of money. The MMA world is tough to break into, we've seen a lot of MMA/martial arts orgs go under over the last few years (especially in Japan). And I really just don't know how they can pay a 39 year old Fedor 2.5 million USD and expect to make a profit in a crappy market and a free TV show in America, where Fedor isn't a big draw.
For sure he seems to have some deep pockets backing him, but I doubt the Yakuza enjoy losing money any more than the average businessman.
Word on the street is the Sheikh from Bahrain is financially backing the new Japanese promotion. He's taken up quite an interest in mma lately and started a mma team out there. He's been paying Kavanagh, Renzo, Khabib, and Frankie Edgar to fly out there and train.
