If you think they're just doing this because another state is, I think you're missing out on how much work is going on behind the scenes. You may think government is a huge waste and that they're terribly inefficient (which is true in some cases) but I'm sure EVERY state has a team of people working round the clock trying to figure out how to handle this effectively. NO ONE wants hoards of sick folks inundating their ER's and care centers. NO ONE wants to close up shop either. But their teams are looking at the data they're getting from different sources and making difficult decisions to help mitigate some of the strain. It's just not as easy as "Ohio did it, so we are too!"
It went the same way with school closures.
Kentucky went first. Then Ohio. Then Indiana.
All within a day of each other.
I'm just speaking to the optics of it. It appears nobody knows what the fuck to do, so it's just a game of follow the leader.
I think you can debate that NOTHING has taken out Coachella or March Madness in the past. This is definitely uncharted territory but let's be reasonable, this came from an area where the government encouraged the farming of wildlife to feed a huge population in a country that outnumbers us 5.1. They don't have an effective system in place to regulate disease control of this legal wildlife trade. Many of my scientists friends are calling for better policies in controlling trade in wildlife (the vast majority of which is for food and "medicine") because they've seen this as an impending issue for years now.
So while I totally see where you're coming from I don't think not eating meat is the answer. We still need to feed the world's masses and meat does that for huge chunk of it.

Once this blows over, the world needs to give them the equivalent of a gang initiation if they don't fix these issues - which they can. I don't know about America, but in Canada it's a time honored tradition for 3 and 4th generation Asians to excuse the practices of their home lands and do their best to import them here.
