How's that? This ban isn't legislation yet.
Order in Council circumvents the legislative process.

Normally it goes: House of Commons > Senate > Governor General > Order in Council

In this case, he cut out all of the middle men. It's disgusting to me that people are celebrating this.

Its absolutely disgusting. So how the hell are they going to handle the appeal process? I imagine that would take years to get through the backlog of appeals. I would think the majority of owners will appeal.
I guess the taxpayers will be on the hook for the buyback program.
Can't wait to escape this country.

Reading into this, it doesn't sound like there will be a buy back program.

Owners must return them to manufacturer, export them through a sale or destroy them.
Owners have until April 2022 to be in compliance.

During the amnesty period, the Government intends to implement a buy-back program to compensate affected owners for the value of their firearms after they are delivered to a police officer; however, until a buy-back program is offered, affected owners will not be eligible for compensation. An option to participate in a grandfathering regime would also be made available for affected owners. Further public communications on the buy-back program and the grandfathering regime will follow later.

Most lefties tend to be very authoritarian. It’s no surprise they value democracy as little as liberty.

I’m centrist but they’re definitely trying their best to push me right

Not a gun guy brah
Ok..

but why do you enjoy the circumvention of democracy to punish law abiding citizens and seize their legally owned possessions?

I’m not a pot guy and I’m glad you can smoke it legally now

Its about freedoms and liberties and democracy. Some conservative government will probably do this with your weed in the future. That will be just as wrong and it will also be just as ineffective as those that want to do it or have it will. Especially if they’re the type to use the guns or drugs for ill.

Well, hopefully that makes it a tad bit harder to disembody a lot of souls in a short period of time.

They can have weed back too if they want.

Why do people need access to any of the firearms affected by the ban? Because we can?

Fewer guns, fine by me. If this sets a precedent down the road then maybe I'll be more passionate about it.

If a tree falls on a crowd and kills 20 people are we going to cut down all the trees? If someone who is mentally unbalanced drives a car into a crowd and kills 20 people will we ban cars? If someone makes a bomb with diesel fuel and fertilizer and kills 20 people do we ban diesel and fertilizer?

Guns are not the problem. If someone wants to kill a bunch of people there are hundreds of ways to do it. People will always find a way. Deal with the mental health problem.

My issue is that this affects legal gun owners who abide by the law and have never shot anything other than a target or for meat.
