Headlining on his home turf, Gustafsson suffered the first KO loss of his career when he was pounded out by Anthony Johnson in the first round at UFC on Fox 14 in January. With a lack bankable contenders at 205 pounds, Gustafsson challenged newly minted champion Cormier at UFC 192 in October, losing a split decision.

"I do not want to be a journeyman," said Gustafsson. "I do not want to be a fighter that people should beat to get a title fight. I do not want to be in fights where people see me as an obstacle on the road. I want to be the man challenging. I'm not satisfied with being ranked second and third. I'm such a self-critic, that I find it hard to give myself credit for something.

"Sure, it was a good fight against DC. It was a good fight against Jones, but I didn't win. So that is not a good fight. It is not enough that I've put Sweden on the map. I've heard a hundred times how good that was. I appreciate what people say to me and that they give me credit. But for my personally, it's not enough. I want to go all the way."

One of the faces of European MMA, it doesn't sound like UFC brass are worried about Gustafsson moving forward.

"We'll see what the future looks like now," Gustafsson said. "I spoke to [UFC president]Dana White and [UFC CEO] Lorenzo Fertitta on Friday. 'Big plans', was all they said. We'll see what they have to offer. I am 28 and I see myself involved with this a few more years. I want to go some more years."

Not sure what to make out of this. He says he's only satisfied fighting for the title, but the UFC has big news for him? It won't be a title fight. So I'm guessing Gus doesn't care what plans they have for him.

Gus at HW? What big plans could they possibly have for him unless they are doing Gus Jones 2 for the next shot at the title? And doing DC vs Bader or AJ again? LHW at the moment isn't super deep at all so I guess we will see. Too bad Rashad is done because that wouldve been a nice edition to have back at LHW.

Yeah bro, HW ran through my mind for a split second too, but I don't think so. Would it be fair to jump Rumble? Of course the UFC can do whatever they want, but I don't think it'd be right.

Rumble gets another shot at the title IMO. No one beats him but DC and maybe jones.

And it def will. I think Gus takes it this time even though I thought he took it last time.
I heard something on rogan podcast about Jones potentially not taking the gus fight seriously and didn't put all of his efforts into camp, if so, a fully trained, focussed Jones won't lose to gus or anyone for that matter

Ugh seriously bro. comments like that drive me nuts. Jones was fully into that fight like any other he just got worked.

Gus should fight in title fights exclusively, imo.

Jones admitted to partying and not taking Gus seriously when they fought. No doubt it would be different if they fought again.

The "big plans" probably mean coaching TUF which would be a huge letdown and tie up Gus for a year.

He better get on the horse meat.
He could put on 10-20 pounds of muscle without roids at that weight in a realistic amount of time. If we think he is cutting to 205 from 215-220, perhaps dieting down from 230 at the start of camp. It's really not that much to be a heavyweight. A guy his size is probably not even lifting weights to stay within 205 range.

I just wonder how much strength he could add naturally to be competitive at HW, being a lanky guy?

Lanky guys are strong in odd ways hence how Jones mauled; Well everyone except that other lanky guy.

I think he'd bust up everyone in the heavyweight division Werdum being the most difficult but I'd say Jones could UD him.
