I got a fake $5 bill back in change the other day. Has this happened to you? Whats protocol?

I tried. Thats how I found out it was fake. Looks exactly the same as a normal $5 bill. It just lacks the water marks and doesnt feel right. The paper is close but a little off.

i worked at a restaraunt back in the day and we would get counterfiet bills every now and then.the first few times we called the cops and they came down and took the money.nothing ever happened.after that we just put them in with the rest of the cash and tried to get rid of it however we could.trying to do the right thing just cost us money
Love it, they took it and that was the end of that....reminds me when I was bouncing on Long Island and there was a huge drug crackdown and I busted this kid (had to, way too blatant) who pulled out his coke in tinfoil and took it from him. Took him to exit and head bouncer asked why he was leaving and showed him the nice amount he had......he yells at kid, lecturing him about how illegal it is and what and scumbag he is. I go to throw the drugs away and he said "I'll take that and get rid of it". Put it in his pocket.

I believe so, but with so much out there today (something like one in three gb sterling £ coins is fake) you aren't likely to get stung for it.

Yes, well paying taxes in cash may actually cause them to also audit you......
Not income tax. Something like property tax or the stupid city tax I pay just for being a home owner should be good. Usually send a check, maybe this year ill walk my payment in.

I use the term City loosely. Its a town of 10,000
