We don't allow free speech. We attempt to allow good faith participation, whatever that is.
I don't care if you disagree with me or think I'm an ass. I don't even care personally if you go away over the line sometimes. Who doesn't have a bad day? Holistically though, the point is to allow people attempting to participate in good faith most of the time.

Anyways the bigger point is that there's a really complex argument about whether online communities owe you free speech, and regardless of the fact that I generally support that notion as a default and work away from there for decency of experience, section 230 and laws like it are critical to maintaining an attempt at the freest of speech in any community.
Lindsey Graham and Trump and others responding to their views of heavy moderating by forcing heavier moderating, is a direct attack on free speech. It makes open communities impossible.

any time i go on a site that has actual free speech it is an utter cesspool of every ugly thing that you kind of forgot people even said or did. places like 4 chan or gab end up being a bunch of edgelords who can anonymously say the N word so they say it every 30 seconds . there needs to be a certain level of rules just to keep everything civil . the idea of free speech on a forum sounds good but in reality it is an ugly nightmare . there is a reason that places without rules or with very few rules arent more popular. normal people go there once and get bombarded with dicks , antisemitsm and Nwords and log out and never come back
