You don't need to bring that much money. There is nothing to spend it on really unless you're going to larger cities: TJ/Ensenada/La Paz/Cabo.

This is really not a concern. Obey the laws. You are in someone else's country.

I'm in TJ 5 days a week and have gotten pulled over once. It scared the fuck out of me cuz I was in a pretty bad neighborhood and in an area where there was no one around. They searched me and my car for a good 5 minutes (that feels like forever), but in the end let me go. They did not ask for a bribe or anything.

One thing I would do is open an account with Chase bank before your trip. The only bank that you are going to run into down there is Bancomer, which is a Chase affiliate so you can just not bring much money and pull it out when you want. Zero fees on withdrawl, but you'll take a 3% charge. This is not really that big of a deal because the exchange rate you get from a bank is better than the money exchange places.

For instance, I bank at B of A in the states and their partner bank is Santander. I pull money out there when I'm in TJ. If the rate at the exchange places is 16.2 x 1, I'm getting close to 16.8 or 16.9...pull off the 3% and its pretty much a wash but the ATMs are secure.

when I drive in Mexico I never mention im American,I always pretend to be from Zacatecas,Mx . My taxi driver had to bribe a cop 50 pesos(around 4 u.s) when he took me to the Guadalajara airport last year.

Very cool. Flying in and out of La Paz seems very easy. Loreto also has an intl airport. I think next time I do this, I will fly to La Paz or Cabo (whatever is cheaper), and then do a triangle of Cabo/La Paz/Todos Santos.

Next plan though is Cuba.

They were all really friendly. The three brother dogs from Mulege were awesome. When they realized we didn't have food for them, they camped out under a date tree and ate all the fruit that fell off.

I had a scorpion sting me in the ass cheek while I was taking a dump.it was under the toilet rim, the ass is the most painful place to be stung,no romo. I always check now.

Woke up and hit the road since it's 8 hours south to Guerrero Negro (the town sits on the border of Baja and Baja Sur).

@JimmersonzGlove - awesome thread dude. Looks like a damn dream vacation to me. You may have said it, and I missed it...but how many days were you there? Did you do much pre-planning (expedia, trip advisor, etc), or did you sort of wing it? How much can you expect to spend on hotels per night at these remote locations?

Total of 8 nights.

Night 1 - Ensenada - 2 hours driving - Hotel Santo Thomas - 1,230 pesos - booked on Hotels.com

Night 2 - Guerrero Negro - 8 hours driving - Malarrimo Hotel - $46 USD - found on Trip Advisor and called to book

Night 3/4 - Mulege - 4 hours driving - Hotel Serenidad - 650 pesos per night - found Trip Advisor and called to book

Night 5/6 - Loreto - 1.5 hours driving - Tiburon Casitas - $116.00 USD per night - found on Trip Advisor and emailed - this and the wine country were the most expensive. Tiburon was awesome though. They were little casitas that were basically separate studio apartments (there were 8 - plus the owner lived in the big front house).

Night 7 - San Quintin - 11 hours driving - Old Mill Hotel - 587 pesos - Found on Trip Advisor and called

Night 8 - Valle de Guadalupe - Hospedate en un Vinedo - $134.00 USD - This was a bed and breakfast. I think there were four different private rooms. Each had their own bathroom. This place was actually really awesome, except they bought a cheap Ikea bed that would creak like crazy. No sexy time this night. Booked through AirBNB.com.

This was really off season so we could have winged it. It was after summer, but pre-whale watching. Honestly, if you were to do my plan, you'd need to knock it out almost the same way, so you can do all your drives during the day. If I could do anything differently, I would've just swapped Loreto and Mulege. I would've rather added the extra couple hours to the front end of the trip.

That sounds like a pretty affordable 8 day vacation man. About what, $500 on hotels. I assume food and drinks are pretty cheap there? And gas? And probably not much else to spend money on really?
