Out of curiosity, are any of the Texans here planning to spend some money insulating their homes properly after this, or are we going to revisit this thread in 5 years?
There has actually been a multi day PM concerning exactly this I was actually ready to rip out my plumbing and redo a bunch fo it.

I’ve already upgrade the attic space above the living areas, but not much I can do about the walls without ripping drywall or siding off. But luckily my pipes are not in the attic or outside walls (other than hose bibs). My pipes are all embedded in the concrete slab my house sits on.

windows would be the big one for my house, but fuck it’s expensive to change a dozen windows. We’re not sure how long we want to stay in this house so we haven’t seriously considered that investment.

I plan to insulate the non livable areas and probably add insulation to the living spaces. I am looking around to see the easiest way to remove my current blown in insulation and put in a better product. The only problem is @Lars R. Biden wont help me.

Does the old need to be removed? It surely still serves some purpose, and you can just blow in another foot or whatever on top of it. The blow in stuff settles/compacts over time, but you can fill in on top. My attic had rolls/bats, but I put blow in over that

The stuff that's in there is shit, and with the terrible way the electric and water is run it would make it even more of a pain in the ass to work with. @Lars R. Biden has yet to tell me what my options are though so I'm not sure where to start.

You need baffles and insulation stops and to blow a big load of blown in up to 24 inches. Then burn it down
