The attempt to link the name change to the Sandinista support when they have nothing to do with one another is what's disingenuous and retarded, as your own link tells you. DeBlasio simply took his mom's last name and started going by a nickname he'd already long had both because he hated his dad, which I'm sure you're familiar with. Despite having lived a lot of places, I'm actually from NY, as you may recall, and I've known of Bill DeBlasio since at least the late 90s, again as your own link tells you. He legally changed his name in ’01 but had been going by that name for years. Nothing too weird or sinister except that he was too much of a wimp to stand by his Sandinista support once he started moving up.
