I find Wild Turkey very rough.

As I've grown older I prefer Jim Beam to Jack Daniels.

My favourite bourbon is sainsbury's own brand.

Im a philistine.

I have no idea what sainsbury’s is, but if you like it, that’s all that matters ?. Don’t have to spend a ton to enjoy what you like to drink.

and yeah, Wild Turkey isn’t the smoothest out there. But overall their distillery has some good products (Russell’s Reserve, Rare Breed, etc). I don’t drink a lot of barrel-strength bourbon, but their Rare Breed is one of the few high proof bottles I actually buy.

When you say high proof you mean 40%?

I need to read this thread properly.

I will try and hunt down this rare breed.

No, 40-45% is normal bourbon. Those proofs are achieved by adding distilled water until it’s right where they want it for consistent bottling and drink ability. High proof is like 55% and up (so it’s “hotter”). Barrel strength just means they didn’t add water to bring the proof down, it just comes straight out of the barrel as is. A lot of barrel strength comes out around 115-135 (50-65ish%). As someone who really likes bourbon, a lot of barrel strength bottles aren’t enjoyable for me. But a lot of people like the heat though.

I think the rare breed I have is around115 proof, so it isn’t crazy hot.

I'll vouch for rare breed. Good stuff ?

Haha, awesome way to get this started! Safe travels with your family, my friend. It’s a long journey I’m sure, but a worthwhile one! Hope the kiddos are good travelers ?

I imagine it’s about as crazy of a trip as when we went to the Philippines. But we didn’t have two little ones in tow ?. It took us 4 planes and two boats to get where we were going. We gotta make that trip again when the world levels out.

Took this one for a spin yesterday. Not bad at all, easy drinking (86 proof). It’s a mid-shelf bottle, was $40 at one of the smaller liquor joints that is usually a little more expensive than the big stores. I’d be it it again.

it’s kind of humorous to me too, because there is a somewhat local “distillery” that buys all of their juice from Dickel and then simply puts it in their bottle/label and sell it for $10-15 more. Silly.

Their standard bottle pales in comparison to Jack Daniels. Imean it's alright but Its kinda like comparing coca cola to no name cola

Yeah, their base level bottle isn’t very good. I think it’s one of those cheap bottles that uses a charcoal filter to make it “smooth”?
Tsk tsk

They do have a few good ones though, just higher up the line.

What's the cherry Beam? Red Stag? I'm not mad about a splash of that in a coke.
Not sure, Red Stag is a brand, But I haven’t had it.
I was just being funny, I don’t really hate Beam that fervently. But I haven’t had it for many years now. One of my neighbors only drinks Evan, so I’ve had a good bit of it over the years and grown to be fond of it. If I’m buying one of the “names” these days it’s Evan. But I always liked Jack better than Beam.

southern comfort can still fuck off though ?

You're a FRAUD good sir.

Maybe my sentence was misinterpreted…with my response I meant “I’m not sure what the cherry one is, but I know Red Stag is a brand”; not “I’m not sure Red Stag is a brand”. I relied too much on that comma.

but I haven’t tried it so don’t know anything about it taste or quality wise. Not a bottle I would normally reach for at the liquor store, and I don’t drink whiskey and cokes anymore, but I’m sure with the cherry that is just fine.

Isn't EW one of the highest rated budget bourbon?
Also red stag is nasty shit
Yes it is. Punches way above it’s weight class.

I usually buy the green label one, but there is also a white label one that is good. And then I think they have a 100 proof option.

I looked it up a while back and in the Whiskey Bible guide, the guy scored it at something like 87 out of 100. Pretty damn good rating for a bottle that is a like $25 for a handle.

I haven't has SoCo since I was a kid.
I haven’t had it since college. One of my best friends that I grew up with drank the shit out of it while we were at college together. He had two drinks of choice, and one of them was southern and Mountain Dew. Fucking disgusting, and it was a weird color too hah.

that’s one of those liquors I got super hungover and barfing on a few times, and it still makes my stomach uneasy to this day just thinking about that nasty red-colored shit.
