Just like you thought it was strange The CDC was worried about an uptick and then got rid of masks... At that time cases went from increasing for the first time of the year to significantly decreasing with increased vaccinations.
Let's see what happened in the last few weeks that might have made the change...

I've also got a post somewhere out there that has about 12 links showing the same.So why do we use mask? Because cases are going the wrong direction and it's a cheap and easy intervention. Because we won't mandate vaccines and a huge number of people are not vaccinated right now.
At no point did I say not wearing masks caused the uptick. The uptick is the natural direction of this highly transmissible disease when there are no interventions. Mask just happens to be one intervention.

Doesn't the CDC's guidance just apply to indoor masking and in areas with high transmission rates?
Poor ventilation and lack of distance make indoor social distancing a difficult and less effective thing.
But yeah, you're outdoors? Distanced? Fuck a mask. But the CDC didn't say to wear one then.
